Removing and installing dash panel vents — AUDI
Removing and installing dash panel vents on Audi: 22 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
The dash panel vents on the platform code listed below come out without dismantling the dash. The outer left and right vents need nothing else removed; the centre vents need the recirculation/defrost buttons and the rear window heating button out first. With the ignition off, the actuating lever is turned to the 6 o'clock position, a hook such as T40207 is slipped between the fins and hooked behind the vent, and the vent is drawn out. If it carries an operating and display unit, that is unplugged, the pin released and the unit transferred. Getting it right means fitting the correct vent version for its location and matching the coded tongue-and-groove fit of the display unit.
🧭 Before you start
Switch off the ignition, remove the buttons ahead of the centre vents, set the lever to 6 o'clock and pull the vent out with a hook between the fins. Unplug and transfer any operating and display unit, check the foam seal and connections, insert the unit on the correct side, lock the pin and plug in. Set the lever to 6 o'clock again and push the vent fully home.

Don't miss
- Set the actuating lever to 6 o'clock before removing and before refitting.
- Insert the hook carefully between the fins so they are not bent.
- Make sure the correct vent version goes in each location.
- Display units are tongue-and-groove coded; match them to the right vent side.
- Check the foam seal is undamaged and properly secured.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
