Removing and installing cylinder head, engine codes BZB, CAWB, CBFA, CCTA, CDAA, CCZA — AUDI

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012)

• Opens: coolant
• Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
• Special tools named: T10070

• Disregard item (3).
• Disregard items marked (1 and 3).
• Disregard items marked (2, 3, 4 and arrow).
• Disregard (arrows).
• For illustration purposes, the installation position is shown with the engine removed.

📋 Procedure

1. Remove engine cover panel (arrows).
2. Pull cover off air duct (release clips on sides) (arrows).
3. Unclip air duct at the bottom by releasing clips (arrows).
4. Detach air duct at bottom together with air hose.
5. Unplug electrical connector (1) from air mass meter G70.

6. Detach air intake hose (2).
7. Unscrew bolt (4) and remove air cleaner housing. [Note: Disregard item (3).]
8. Loosen hose clip (2).
9. Remove bolt (4).
10. Unplug electrical connector (arrow) and move wiring clear. [Note: Disregard items marked (1 and 3).]
11. ⚠ Hot steam/hot coolant can escape - risk of scalding.The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is hot.To allow pressure to dissipate, cover filler cap on coolant expansion tank with cloth and open carefully. — Open filler cap on coolant expansion tank.
12. Remove front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter .
13. Remove front right wheel.
14. Remove noise insulation 66.
15. Release fasteners (1, 2, 3) and remove noise insulation (right-side).
16. Remove noise insulation frame 50.
17. Remove air pipe (item 1 and 2).
18. Drain coolant .
19. Remove bolt (1) and take out air pipe downwards. [Note: Disregard items marked (2, 3, 4 and arrow).]
20. Remove bolts (arrows).
21. Remove air pipe (lift clips (items 1 and 2)).
22. Unplug electrical connectors (1 and 2) and move wiring clear (arrows).
23. Unscrew bolts (1 and 2) and move coolant pipes to the left. [Note: Disregard (arrows).]
24. Remove bolts (1 and 2) and detach support for turbocharger.
25. Remove banjo bolt (2) and move coolant pipe clear to one side.
26. Remove bolts (1) on oil return line.
27. Remove bolt (3) on oil supply line. [Note: For illustration purposes, the installation position is shown with the engine removed.]
28. Press release tabs, detach air hose (2) and swivel to side.
29. Remove bolts (arrows) for air pipe.
30. Disconnect crankcase breather hose (1) from air pipe by pressing release tabs.
31. Loosen hose clip (3) and remove air pipe.
32. ⚠ Risk of violating emission legislation applying to USA models.Do NOT open hose connection (1). — Release hose clip (3) and move air pipe with crankcase breather hose (1) clear to one side (hose remains connected).
33. Remove oil supply line from turbocharger (1).
34. Remove ignition coils .
35. Disconnect crankcase breather hoses (1 and 2).
36. Remove bolts (arrows) and detach crankcase breather.
37. Detach vacuum hose from vacuum pump (1) and move clear.
38. Unscrew earth wire (2).
39. Detach electrical connector (3) and move wiring harness clear.
40. Disconnect coolant hoses (4 and 5).
41. Disconnect electrical connector (A) and hose (B) from combination valve for secondary air system.
42. Remove bolts (arrows) and detach coolant pipe.
43. Disconnect coolant hoses on rear of cylinder head.
44. Unplug electrical connectors (1 ... 4).
45. Move electrical wire (5) clear.
46. Detach vacuum line (6) leading to activated charcoal filter.
47. Unplug electrical connectors (1) and detach connectors from retainer.
48. Unplug electrical connectors (2 ... 4).
49. Detach vacuum line (5).
50. Detach coolant pipe from intake manifold; to do so, unscrew bolts (arrows).
51. Remove intake manifold support (remove securing nut (1) and bolt (2)).
52. Remove oil filter.
53. ⚠ Protect fuel system against contamination.Rules for cleanliness when working on the injection system . — Disconnect fuel supply hose (2) by pressing release ring.
54. Disconnect vacuum line (1) going to activated charcoal filter (press release tab).
55. Detach coolant hose (3).
56. Pull activated charcoal filter upwards and out of bracket (arrow) and place on engine.
57. Disconnect coolant hoses (arrows) and move clear.
58. Detach connector from camshaft control valve 1N205(1).
59. Unscrew bolts (arrows) and remove camshaft control valve 1N205.
60. Unscrew bolts (1 to 5) and remove timing chain cover (top).
