Removing and installing curtain airbag in front seat area — AUDI

Removing and installing curtain airbag in front seat area on Audi: 14 steps, 2 torque figures. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to.

This covers removing and refitting the front curtain airbag on the platform codes listed below, the section that sits along the roof edge above the front seats. Access comes from taking off the A-pillar trim and the upper part of the B-pillar trim; the headliner itself stays in place. Once the battery is disconnected with the ignition on, the igniter connector is unlocked in two stages, the earth cable bolts at the A-pillar come out, and the airbag drops free after its two mounting bolts. The job is straightforward mechanically. What matters is the pyrotechnic discipline: discharge yourself before touching the igniter plug, keep the two connector locks fully engaged on refit, and reconnect the battery with nobody in the vehicle.

14 steps 2 torque figures

🧭 Before you start

Disconnect the battery earth with the ignition switched on, then remove the A-pillar trim and detach the upper B-pillar trim. After discharging static, slide back the outer lock, release the inner lock and pull the connector off the airbag. Remove the earth cable bolts and the two airbag bolts and lift the unit out. Refit the airbag and tighten its bolts to 4 Nm, refit the earth cable at the A-pillar at 4 Nm, then plug in and lock both connector catches before reconnecting the battery.

Fits: platform codes 2EA, 2ED, 2EH, 2EX, 2EB, 2EE, 2EK, 2FC, 2FF, 2FL, 2FZ, 2FG, 2FM

Don't miss

  • Disconnect and reconnect the battery earth with the ignition switched on, and nobody inside the vehicle.
  • Touch the body or door striker before handling the igniter connector to discharge static.
  • Airbag bolts and the A-pillar earth cable bolts both take 4 Nm.
  • Push in the inner lock and engage the outer slide on the connector; both must be home.
  • If K75 shows a fault afterwards, read, clear and re-read the event memory.

🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

TorqueFastener / step
4 Nm (3.0 lb-ft)Install curtain airbag in front seat area (1), start bolts (2) and (3), and tighten them…
4 Nm (3.0 lb-ft)Start bolts (8) with earth cable (7) on A-pillar and tighten bolts

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. ⚠ Observe safety precautions when working on airbag . — Disconnect battery earth cable with ignition switched on Electrical system27Battery; Connecting and disconnecting battery.
  2. Remove A-pillar trim (vehicles with curtain airbag in front seat area) .
  3. Detach upper B-pillar trim .
  4. ⚠ Electrostatic discharges may result in unintentional triggering of airbag. Therefore, the mechanic must electrostatically discharge him/herself before disconnecting the igniter and earth wires. This can be carried out e.g. by briefly touching the body or striker plate of the door. — Slide locking device (5) on connector (4) in direction of (arrow B).
  5. Using a suitable tool, release locking device (6) in direction of (arrow A) and pull off connector (4) from curtain airbag in front seat area (1).

  1. Unscrew bolts (8) and clear away earth cable (7).
  2. Remove bolts (2) and (3)
  3. Remove curtain airbag for front seat area (1) from vehicle.
  4. Install curtain airbag in front seat area (1), start bolts (2) and (3), and tighten them to specified torque of 4 Nm. — 4 Nm (3.0 lb-ft)
  5. Start bolts (8) with earth cable (7) on A-pillar and tighten bolts to 4 Nm of torque. — 4 Nm (3.0 lb-ft)
  6. Fit connector (4) on curtain airbag for front seat area (1).
  7. Push in locking device (6) on connector (4).
  8. Engage locking device (5) on connector (4).
  9. ⚠ Battery must be connected with ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, seat belt tensioners) are repaired incorrectly, undesired triggering may occur after the battery is connected. Ensure that nobody is in vehicle when connecting battery. — Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on Electrical system27Battery; Connecting and disconnecting battery. [Note: If airbag warning lamp K75 indicates a fault following installation, event memory must be read, deleted and read again .]

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
