Removing and installing coolant pipe (front right): Audi A8 D3 (BHT, BSB, BTE, CCGA, …)

Step-by-step removing and installing coolant pipe (front right) for the Audi A8 D3: 43 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

The front right coolant pipe on the A8 (4E) with the engines listed below sits low at the front of the engine, and the route to it goes through the front axle. Above, the air cleaner top and right section of the intake manifold come off, the expansion tank cap is opened carefully and the plenum covers removed. The engine is then supported from above with support bracket 10-222 A on the suspension turrets, both wheels come off, and the noise insulation, anti-roll bar and engine cross member are removed with the subframe supported on a jack. Only then are the hoses released and the coolant drained. Supporting the engine before the cross member bolts come out is the step that cannot be skipped.

🧭 Before you start

Remove the air intake hoses, right air cleaner top and right intake manifold section, open the expansion tank and remove the plenum covers. Support the engine with the support bracket, remove both front wheels, the noise insulation, the anti-roll bar and, with the subframe supported, the engine cross member. Drain the coolant at the pipe hose and detach the pipe. Refit subframe, anti-roll bar, intake manifold and body brace, fill the cooling system and deactivate jacking mode.

Fits: Audi A8 D3 (4E, 2002–2010)

  • Opens: coolant

Don't miss

  • Take up the engine weight with the support bracket before removing the cross member.
  • Open the expansion tank cap under a cloth; hot coolant or steam can escape.
  • Unbolt the anti-roll bar evenly on both sides.
  • Use hose clips of the original equipment type on all connections.
  • Deactivate air suspension jacking mode once the work is complete.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
