Removing and installing control unit, to model year 2010 — AUDI
Removing and installing control unit, to model year 2010 on Audi: 19 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
The Haldex all-wheel drive control unit covered here belongs on the Transporter T5 and T6 (7H, 7J, 7E and 7F codes) up to model year 2010; it sits on the coupling at the rear final drive. With the ignition off and the connectors unplugged, a drip tray goes underneath, the bolts are removed and the control unit is lowered slowly. The coupling opening control valve N373 comes out of the coupling, and its seal is renewed. On reassembly the pressure sensor goes into a new cover with its dished washer convex side towards the sensor, and every O-ring and seal is renewed and coated thinly with Haldex high-performance oil, noting their different diameters. Afterwards the coupling oil level is checked and a new unit is coded.
🧭 Before you start
Switch off the ignition, unplug both connectors, place a drip tray under the final drive, remove the bolts and lower the control unit slowly. Pull valve N373 from the coupling and renew its seal and the O-rings. Fit the pressure sensor with its dished washer into the new cover, insert the valve, oil the new O-rings and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. Check the Haldex oil level and code control unit J492 if the unit is new.
Fits: VW Transporter T5 (7H), VW Transporter T5 (7J), VW Transporter T6 (7E), VW Transporter T6 (7F)
Don't miss
- Renew the N373 seal and all O-rings; note their different diameters.
- Dished washer: convex side faces the pressure sensor.
- Coat seals and O-rings thinly with Haldex high-performance oil only.
- Check the Haldex coupling oil level after installation.
- Code all-wheel drive control unit J492 when a new unit is fitted.

📋 Procedure
- Switch off ignition.
- Unplug connectors (1) and (2) on control unit.
- Place drip tray for workshop hoistVAS 6208 under rear final drive.
- Remove bolts (arrows).
- Slowly remove control unit.
- Carefully pull coupling opening control valve N373 out of Haldex coupling.
- Remove seal (arrow) for coupling opening control valve N373 from housing.
- Thinly coat new seal (arrow) for coupling opening control valve N373 with high-performance oil for Haldex coupling and insert in housing.
- Renew O-rings (1) and (2).
- Note different diameters:
- Put dished washer (2) pressure sensor (1) with convex side facing sensor.
- Set new cover (5) on control unit (6).
- Insert pressure sensor (4) with dished washer in new cover (5) and push on connector. Convex side of dished washer faces pressure sensor.
- Thinly coat new O-ring for pressure sensor (4) with high-performance oil for Haldex coupling.
- Insert valve (1) in new cover (5) and control unit (6) and push on connector.
- Thinly coat new O-rings (2) and (3) with high-performance oil for Haldex coupling.
- Tighten bolts to specified torque.
- Check oil level in Haldex coupling .
- When installing a new component, code all-wheel drive control unit J492 using .

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
