🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi TT Mk1 (8N)

  • Opens: coolant
  • Special tools named: V.A.G 1306

Don't miss

  • Before removing, mark direction of rotation of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage.
  • Disregard (arrows A and B).
  • Collect drained coolant in a clean container for re-use.
  • Unbolt pulley for power steering pump (counterhold with mandrel).
  • Refrigerant circuit of air conditioner must not be opened. — Unscrew bolts (arrow) for air conditioner compressor.

📋 Procedure

  1. Unscrew bolt (1) and remove cover over coolant expansion tank (arrow). [Note: Before removing, mark direction of rotation of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage.]
  2. To release tension of poly V-belt, screw a bolt M8x40 (arrow) into the bore on tensioning element.
  3. Remove poly V-belt from alternator pulley.
  4. Unscrew upper securing bolt (2) for alternator.
  5. Remove centre noise insulation (fasteners 1 ... 3).

  1. Release fasteners in wheel housing (left and right)
  2. Unscrew bolts (arrows 1 … 3). [Note: Disregard (arrows A and B).]
  3. Remove left noise insulation (arrows).
  4. Remove right noise insulation (arrows). [Note: Collect drained coolant in a clean container for re-use.]
  5. Place drip tray for workshop hoistVAS 6208 or V.A.G 1306 under engine.
  6. Turn drain plug (1) on radiator anti-clockwise, fit auxiliary hose to connection if necessary.
  7. Remove lower coolant hose from radiator by pulling off retaining clip (2).
  8. Remove tubular cross member (arrows).
  9. Unbolt pulley for power steering pump (counterhold with mandrel).
  10. Unscrew power steering pump from bracket (arrows).
  11. Hang power steering pump on lock carrier with hydraulic hoses (1) and (2) attached.
  12. Unplug electrical connector (1) for magnetic clutch of air conditioner compressor. [Note: The air conditioner compressor can only be removed from bracket with upper securing bolt still inserted. To do so, press the engine simultaneously to the left side with an assembly lever (2nd mechanic is required.) If required, loosen all bolts of the assembly mounting 1 turn.]
  13. ⚠ Refrigerant circuit of air conditioner must not be opened. — Unscrew bolts (arrow) for air conditioner compressor.
  14. Tie up air conditioner compressor together with refrigerant hoses at front of longitudinal member (refrigerant hoses remain connected).
  15. Unscrew lower securing bolt (1) for alternator.
  16. Remove alternator from bracket for ancillary units (electrical wires remain connected).
  17. Unscrew clamp (3).
  18. Unscrew wire (1) at alternator.
  19. Detach electrical connector (2).
  20. Remove alternator.
  21. Unscrew bolt (arrow) at bracket for coolant pump for continued circulation V51.
  22. Unscrew bolts (1 ... 5) and detach bracket for ancillary units. [Note: Bolts (1) and (2) are dowel bolts.]
  23. Tighten bolts in the sequence (1 ... 5) initially only hand-tight.
  24. Then tighten bolts in the sequence (1 ... 5) to the specified torque.
  25. Tighten bolt (arrow) at bracket for coolant pump for continued circulation V51.
  26. Drive back the respective bushes for securing bolts slightly to facilitate installation of alternator, power steering pump and air conditioner compressor.
  27. Install alternator Electrical system27
  28. Install air conditioner compressor Air conditioning system87
  29. Install power steering pump Running gear, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive48.
  30. Install tubular cross member General body repairs, exterior50.
  31. Install poly V-belt .
  32. Install noise insulation panels General body repairs, exterior50.
  33. If the bolts for assembly mounting were loosened, the engine mountings must be adjusted .
  34. Fill cooling system .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
