Removing and installing bonnet contact switch F266: Audi TT Mk2
Step-by-step removing and installing bonnet contact switch F266 for the Audi TT Mk2: 12 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Replacing the bonnet contact switch F266 on cars with platform code 8J. The switch clips into the bonnet lock on the lock carrier, so the bumper has to come off before there is any real access. Behind it, the air duct, the brace and the anti-theft bracket at the bottom of the lock carrier are removed. The switch wiring is held in a bracket and by a cable tie, which is cut, and the harness is guided out of the lock carrier. The switch itself is released by its retaining tab and slid off the bonnet lock. On refit, the wiring needs routing back through the lock carrier and securing with a new tie, and the anti-theft bracket must engage properly. Check the switch works before the bumper goes back.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the bumper, then the air duct, brace and anti-theft bracket. Unclip and unplug the connector, cut the cable tie and free the harness from the lock carrier. Release the retaining tab and slide the switch off the bonnet lock. Fit the new switch, route and tie the wiring, refit the brackets and bumper.
Fits: Audi TT Mk2 (8J, 2006–2014)
Don't miss
- Disengage the anti-theft bracket at the bottom of the lock carrier rather than forcing it.
- Cut the cable tie and fit a new one on reassembly.
- Release the retaining tab before sliding the switch off the bonnet lock.
- Route the wiring back through the lock carrier so it cannot chafe.
- Test the switch with the alarm or warning display before refitting the bumper, as general practice.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
