Removing and installing bonded rubber bush: Audi TT Mk1

Step-by-step removing and installing bonded rubber bush for the Audi TT Mk1: 11 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Renewing the bonded rubber bush in the rear axle beam is covered for platform code 8N listed below. The brake cable is unclipped and the brake hose retainer clamps unfastened, then the hexagon bolt through the bush is removed. A soft wooden block, about 10 cm x 10 cm, is set between axle beam and body to make room for the special tool, which knocks the old guide bush out. The new bush has a position mark that must be identified and lined up with the edge of the trailing arm as the bush is pulled in by turning the tool spindle. The position check after installation and greasing the kidney-shaped cavities with assembly paste G 052 150 A2 before the axle goes back up are what make the bush last.

11 steps

🧭 Before you start

Unclip the brake cable and brake hose retainer clamps, remove the bush bolt, fit a wooden block between beam and body and knock the old bush out with the special tool. Identify the mark on the new bush, set it in the tool, align the mark with the trailing arm edge and pull the bush in with the spindle. Check its position, then grease the kidney-shaped cavities with assembly paste before the axle is refitted.

Fits: Audi TT Mk1 (8N)

Don't miss

  • The bush mark must align with the edge of the trailing arm.
  • Use a soft wooden block between axle beam and body to make space for the tool.
  • Check the bush position after pulling it in, before anything else is assembled.
  • Grease the kidney-shaped cavities with G 052 150 A2 before installing the axle.
  • Tighten rubber-bushed pivots with the suspension at ride height, as general practice.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
