Removing and installing ATF filter housing: Audi A6/A7 C7

Step-by-step removing and installing ATF filter housing for the Audi A6/A7 C7: 12 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

The ATF filter housing on the Audi A6/A7 (4G, C7) and the related 4X platform bolts to the side of the gearbox together with the ATF hoses to the cooler. Access is from below: the rear noise insulation, any heat shield and the side cover on the gearbox come off. The ATF is drained into a collection unit, the hoses unbolted and the open lines plugged with clean bungs, then the housing is unbolted. The leak risk lives in the seals: every seal on the oil lines and filter housing is renewed and coated with ATF, sealing faces must be clean, and the pipes are pushed into the housing by hand until they engage before anything is bolted. Then it is refilled with ATF.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
