Removing and installing alternator, 2.0 l diesel engine, unit injector (SDI) — AUDI

Removing and installing alternator, 2.0 l diesel engine, unit injector (SDI) on Audi: 14 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

On the Caddy III (2K) and 2C0 with the 2.0 SDI unit-injector engine, the alternator comes out from above once the belt is off. After the battery is disconnected and the engine cover removed, the DF cable connector and B+ cable come off the alternator, the fuel filter is lifted from its bracket and laid aside with the hoses still attached, and the poly V-belt is removed. The mounting bolts and wire holder are undone and the alternator lifted out. Before refitting, the threaded sleeve in the alternator housing is driven back about 4 mm so the unit fits between its mounts. A used belt must go back in its marked running direction, and the belt run is checked with the engine running.

14 steps

🧭 Before you start

Disconnect the battery, remove the engine cover and disconnect the DF connector and B+ cable. Set the fuel filter aside with its hoses connected, remove the poly V-belt, undo the mounting bolts and wire holder and take out the alternator. Drive the threaded sleeve back about 4 mm before fitting, tighten to the specified torque, refit the belt, reconnect the battery and check the belt running with the engine on.

Fits: VW Caddy III (2K, 2004–2015); platform code 2C0

Don't miss

  • Mark the running direction on a used poly V-belt before removing it.
  • Drive the threaded sleeve back about 4 mm before installing the alternator.
  • Leave the fuel hoses on the filter; just move it aside.
  • Ensure all ancillaries are secure and the belt sits correctly in every pulley.
  • Start the engine and watch the belt run before closing up.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
