- Using a flat screwdriver could damage the electrical wiring.
- Make sure electrical connectors are fitted correctly (as far as stop) and engage audibly.Make sure that wiring is not trapped.
📋 Procedure

- Turn steering wheel so that opening in back of steering wheel is pointing straight upwards (approx. 12 o'clock position).
- Using Torx screwdriver T25 (length approx. 100 mm), release retaining clip (1) for airbag (driver side) (2)(arrows). [Note: Using a flat screwdriver could damage the electrical wiring.]
- Turn steering wheel by 180° and repeat procedure on opposite steering wheel side.
- Return steering wheel to centre position (wheels straight ahead).
- ⚠ Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge any static electricity. This can be done by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar. — Pull airbag (driver side) (3) slightly away from steering wheel.
- Pull out connector locking element (2)(arrow), press locking element down and unplug electrical connector (1).

- ⚠ Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components .Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. plugging in the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge any static electricity. This can be done by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar. — Connect electrical plug for coil connector to airbag coupling at return ring with slip ring.
- To secure electrical connector in position, press it into recesses in steering wheel.
- Position airbag (driver side) in steering wheel and press on until it engages audibly.
- ⚠ The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery. — With ignition switched on, connect battery earth wire Electrical system 27. Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery.
- As a final step, interrogate and erase the event memory of the airbag control unit as unplugging the electrical connectors may have caused faults to be stored (see the separate procedure).

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
