Removing and installing air conditioning unit (rear): Audi Q7
Step-by-step removing and installing air conditioning unit (rear) for the Audi Q7: 17 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi Q7 (4L, 2005–2015)
- Opens: refrigerant (A/C)
- Special tools named: VAS 5051
Don't miss
- Mark the two coolant hoses (A) and (B) to the rear heat exchanger (C) (danger of interchange).
- On removal, hold the air conditioning unit such that coolant cannot escape from the heat exchanger (C).
📋 Procedure
- Drain the refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a87Refrigerant circuit (air conditioner with refrigerant R134a, refrigerant circuit, working with air conditioner service station).
- Switch off ignition.
- Dissipate the pressure in the coolant circuit by opening the cap at the coolant expansion tank. Engine, mechanics19
- Detach refrigerant lines from expansion valve (rear) .
- Move air conditioning unit (rear) to service position .
- Mark the two coolant hoses (A) and (B) to the rear heat exchanger (C) (danger of interchange).
- Pinch off the two coolant hoses (A) and (B) to the rear heat exchanger (C) (e.g. using hose clamps up to dia. 25 mm3094).
- Use absorbent paper to cover the area beneath the air conditioning unit into which escaping coolant could ingress (to stop any coolant running onto and into the air conditioning unit or onto the floor covering).
- Place a vessel beneath the two connections to the heat exchanger (C) and detach both coolant hoses.
- Remove air conditioning unit (rear). [Note: On removal, hold the air conditioning unit such that coolant cannot escape from the heat exchanger (C).]
- Prior to or on connection of the two coolant hoses (A) and (B), bleed the rear heat exchanger (C) in the same manner as described for renewing the rear heat exchanger (removing and installing rear heat exchanger with rear air conditioning unit fitted).
- Bleed coolant circuit and Engine, mechanics19
- Evacuate and re-charge the refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a87Refrigerant circuit (air conditioner with refrigerant R134a, refrigerant circuit, working with air conditioner service station).
- Interrogate the fault memory of the front operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit J255 and the rear Climatronic operating and display unit E265 and erase any faults displayed "Guided Fault Finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
- If applicable, perform air conditioner basic setting and final control diagnosis "Guided Fault Finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
- Start up air conditioner after charging refrigerant circuit . [Note: Also heed the information on start-up of the air conditioner after charging Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a87General information on air conditioner (air conditioner with refrigerant R134a, general information on air conditioner). Before starting up air conditioner after fresh charging.]
- If necessary, check operation of air conditioner Guided Fault Finding function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
