Gearbox removal & installation: Lifting suspension to reference position (vehicles with air suspension) — AUDI
Gearbox removal & installation — Lifting suspension to reference position (vehicles with air suspension) on Audi: 18 steps, 1 torque figure.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)
- Special tools named: VAS 5051
Don't miss
- Do not raise or lower vehicle when engine and gearbox jack is under vehicle.Do not leave engine and gearbox jack under vehicle for longer than necessary. — Tighten relevant bolts/nuts.
- When charging suspension, make sure centralising pin (arrow a) locates in hole in longitudinal member (arrow b). — Charge system using VAS 5051 A.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 10 Nm (7.4 lb-ft) | Tighten connection piece (1) on residual pressure valve (2) |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Position vehicle on lifting platform (see the separate procedure).
- Bleed system using VAS 5051 A.
- Remove bolt (1) and move wheel housing liner to the side.
- Slowly loosen air pipe (1) at connection (2) to dissipate air pressure. Unscrew air pipe when air pressure has been dissipated.
- Seal both connections. Take care to prevent dirt entering the connections.
- Turn wheel hub until one of the wheel bolt holes is at the top.
- Use wheel bolt to attach support T10149.
- Insert support T10149 in engine/gearbox jack V.A.G 1383 A and press wheel bearing housing upwards until reference position, dimension (a), is attained.
- ⚠ Do not raise or lower vehicle when engine and gearbox jack is under vehicle. Do not leave engine and gearbox jack under vehicle for longer than necessary. — Tighten relevant bolts/nuts.
- Lower wheel bearing housing.
- Pull out engine and gearbox jack from underneath vehicle.
- Detach support T10149.
- Connect air pipe (1) at connection (2).
- Screw in bolt (1)
- ⚠ When charging suspension, make sure centralising pin (arrow a) locates in hole in longitudinal member (arrow b). — Charge system using VAS 5051 A.
- Fit wheel.
- Stand vehicle on its wheels (see the separate procedure).
- Secure wheel Wheels and tyres44.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
