Intake manifold (top section) - exploded view — AUDI

Intake manifold (top section) - exploded view on Audi: 3 steps, 2 torque figures, engines BUH. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to.

This is the tightening reference for the top section of the intake manifold on the Audi A6 C6 (2004–2011) with the BUH engine. There is no strip-down sequence here, only the part that catches people out on refit: the twelve bolts go down in the order 1 to 12 and in two stages, both to 9 Nm. The second pass matters because the plastic or light-alloy top section and its gaskets settle once the whole flange has been pulled in, and the first bolts tightened will have relaxed by the time you reach number 12. Clean gasket faces and a torque wrench that is accurate at low values are what make this go right; overtighten and you distort the flange and chase vacuum leaks afterwards.

🧭 Before you start

With the top section seated on new gaskets, run all bolts in by hand, then tighten in sequence 1 to 12 to 9 Nm. Go round the same sequence a second time to 9 Nm to take up settling. Check for vacuum leaks once the engine is running.

Fits: Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)

Don't miss

  • Follow the 1 to 12 sequence on both passes.
  • Second pass is again 9 Nm; it catches bolts that relaxed while the flange settled.
  • Use a torque wrench that is accurate at low settings; overtightening distorts the flange.
  • Fit new gaskets and make sure the faces are clean before seating the top section.

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. Tighten bolts for intake manifold (top section) in the sequence (1 ... 12) in 2 stages as follows:
  2. Tighten to 9 Nm. — 9 Nm (6.6 lb-ft)
  3. Tighten again to 9 Nm. — 9 Nm (6.6 lb-ft)

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
