Identifying different makes of clutch — AUDI
Identifying different makes of clutch on Audi: 8 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Before ordering parts or opening a manual gearbox on platform code 8V, you need to know whether the clutch is the Sachs or the LuK version, because each has its own exploded view and its own removal and installation sequence. The quick way is from underneath: take off the noise insulation, plus the engine sump insulation if it is in the way, and look at the flywheel contour through the recesses in the bell housing. Where a small cover plate is fitted, unclipping it gives a clearer view. Identifying it correctly at this stage saves a wrong clutch kit or the wrong tool list later, which is the only thing that can really go wrong here.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the noise insulation and, if needed, the sump insulation. Check the flywheel contour through the recesses, or remove the small cover plate where fitted for a better look. Then follow the Sachs or LuK procedure that matches what you found.
Fits: Audi A3 (8V, 2012–2020)
Don't miss
- Confirm Sachs or LuK before ordering parts; the procedures differ.
- Use the small cover plate, if fitted, for a clearer view of the flywheel contour.
- Refit the noise insulation and any cover plate removed for the check.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
