📋 Procedure

Notes:

All possible faults which can be detected by the J197 self-levelling suspension system control unit are listed below by their fault code. Existing faults are printed out with their fault code (5-digit) only if the printer of the V.A.G 1551 is switched on
If a fault occurs on a long-term basis the fault-indicator light for the self-levelling suspension system remains on until the fault has been eliminated and the fault memory has been cleared.
If faults occur only occasionally and/or if the fault memory has not been cleared following elimination of the fault, this fault is also indicated as a "sporadically occurring fault". "/SP" appears on the right in the display of the V.A.G 1551 and the fault-indicator light does not illuminate.
If defective components are detected, also check the wiring to the components for short-circuits and line breakage using the circuit diagram

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
