Checking, removing and installing condensation drain (rear) — AUDI
Checking, removing and installing condensation drain (rear) on Audi: 11 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Checking and renewing the rear condensation drain for the rear air conditioning unit on the Audi Q7 2005–2015 (4L). Most of the time the fault is found before anything is removed: the valve under the floor is checked from beneath and must not be gummed up with wax or underseal, and the drain itself can be cleared with a piece of wire. If the hose has to come off, the drain is pushed up into the cabin, the rear air conditioning unit moved to its service position and the hose refitted with a proper hose clamp. The details that matter are the drain sitting in the floor opening and the hose secured underneath without a twist.
🧭 Before you start
Raise the car and check that the drain valve closes properly and is free of wax or underseal, then clear the drain from the rear unit with a wire. To renew the hose, switch off the ignition, release the drain from the floor panel, move the rear air conditioning unit to its service position and swap the hose, fixing it with a hose clamp. Refit the unit with the drain located in the floor opening, then pull the hose through from underneath and secure it without twisting.
Fits: Audi Q7 (4L, 2005–2015)
Don't miss
- The valve must close properly and be free of wax or underseal.
- Hose may be fixed by cable tie or clamp depending on production date; refit with a hose clamp.
- Make sure the drain sits in the floor panel opening when the unit goes back.
- Do not twist the drain hose when securing it in the rear floor panel.

📋 Procedure
- Check the valve (A) from underneath (with the vehicle raised). The valve must not be gummed up with wax or underseal and must close properly.
- Check for contamination of the condensation drain of the rear air conditioning unit (F) (with a piece of wire, for example) and clean if necessary. [Note: The condensate hose (D) must be firmly attached to the connection of the air conditioning unit (F).The condensate hose (D) to the valve (A) must not be kinked or crushed.Depending on the production period, the condensation hose (D) may be attached to the condensation drain of the air conditioning unit (rear) (F) with a hose clamp (E) or a cable tie.]
- Switch off ignition.
- Slide the condensation drain (B) from underneath into the passenger compartment (to do so, unfasten the condensation drain (B) from the rear floor panel (C)).
- Move air conditioning unit (rear) to service position .
- Detach the condensation drain hose (A) from the condensation drain of the air conditioning unit (D). [Note: Depending on the production period, the condensation drain hose (A) may be attached with a hose clamp or a cable tie to the condensation drain of the air conditioning unit (D).]
- Attach the condensation drain hose (A) with a hose clamp (B) to the condensation drain of the air conditioning unit (D).
- On installing the air conditioning unit, make sure the condensation drain is inserted in the floor panel opening (C).
- Re-install the air conditioning unit and the remaining components removed.
- Working from underneath, pull the condensation drain hose (A) outwards through the opening in the rear floor panel (C).
- Secure the condensation drain hose (B) in the rear floor panel (C) from underneath as shown, taking care not to twist the condensation drain hose.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
