🧭 Before you start

Fits: platform code 2DA

  • Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
  • Special tools named: dial gauge

Don't miss

  • Before removing camshaft toothed belt pulley, use special wrench3447 to turn crankshaft to the TDC mark (arrow).
  • To counterhold engine, position special wrench3447 on vibration damper bolts.
  • Loosen bolt from adjustment bearing (arrow A) (do not remove).

  1. Remove camshaft sprocket.
  2. Secure dial gauge with universal dial gauge bracketVW 387 to cylinder head.
  3. Determine backlash at intermediate shaft.
  4. Position camshaft sprocket and tighten camshaft bolt hand-tight.
  5. Now determine backlash by holding intermediate shaft and simultaneously turning (arrow) camshaft.
  6. Unscrew sealing cap for intermediate shaft.
  7. Loosen bolt from adjustment bearing (arrow A) (do not remove).
  8. Backlash can be adjusted by moving bearing to the side (arrow).
  9. After adjusting, tighten adjustment bearing bolt to 110 Nm. — 110 Nm (81 lb-ft)
  10. Tighten sealing cap for intermediate shaft with new seal.
  11. Lock camshaft at cylinder 4 using camshaft clamp3445.
  12. Remove camshaft clamp3445.
  13. To counterhold engine, position special wrench3447 on vibration damper bolts.
  14. Tighten camshaft sprocket bolt to 180 Nm. — 180 Nm (133 lb-ft)
  15. Remove special wrench3447.
  16. Tighten vibration damper dust cap to 10 Nm. — 10 Nm (7.4 lb-ft)
  17. Install rocker finger .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
