Test sequence
Remove noise insulation.
Pull connector off throttle valve potentiometer.
Connect multimeter between contacts 4 and 6 to measure resistance.
Specification: 0 ω
Open throttle valve slightly.
Specified value: ∞ ω
If the specifications are not obtained:
Adjust idling switch =>Page
24-104
.
If the specifications are still not attained:
Renew throttle valve potentiometer.
Checking wiring
With the ignition switched off, use adapter V.A.G 1598/11 to connect test box V.A.G 1598 A to connector A only of engine control unit (control unit remains disconnected) => Page
24-17
.
Check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:
Connector / Contact · Test box V.A.G 1598 A / Socket
6 · 49
Rectify short circuit or open circuit if necessary.
=> "Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault Finding and Fitting Locations" binder
Note:
Use only gold-plated contacts when repairing the contacts in the plug connectors for the knock sensors.
If no fault in wire is detected:
Connect voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B as follows:
Connector / Contact · Measure against
4 · Battery positive
The LED should light up.
If the LED does not light up:
Check wiring between contact 4 of connector and earth connection in wiring harness on right of engine compartment for open circuit and repair if necessary.
=> "Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault Finding and Fitting Locations" binder
Note:
When installing noise insulation, pay particular attention to proper positioning of noise insulation at throttle valve unit so as to avoid unmetered air.
By way of verification, check output voltage of air mass meter => Reading measured value block, display group 002, Page
01-104
.
Adjusting idling switch
Remove the throttle valve unit.
Slacken off the bolts of throttle valve potentiometer.
Turn throttle valve potentiometer in direction of arrow until a stop is felt.
Note:
Do not move the throttle valve.
Tighten bolts of throttle valve potentiometer in this position.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
