Checking and adjusting door window (lateral adjustment) — AUDI
Checking and adjusting door window (lateral adjustment) on Audi: 14 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Frameless door glass has to sit precisely against the A-pillar trim and roof trim strip, and this page covers checking and setting its lateral position on the platform codes listed below. Templates T40205/1 and T40205/2 do the checking: side A of the first must touch both the pillar trim and the glass, and along the roof edge; the second checks the door glass is parallel to the fixed side window and the gap width between them. If the top edge needs moving, sealing plugs at the bottom of the door give access to the regulator nuts, which are loosened while the glass is held in place. For the bottom section, the door trim comes off and opposing adjuster screws are turned under their lock nuts.
🧭 Before you start
Check the door glass with template T40205/1 against the A-pillar trim and roof trim strip, then use T40205/2 for parallelism and gap to the side window. To adjust the top section, remove the sealing plugs, loosen the regulator nuts, move and hold the glass while tightening. For the bottom section, remove the door trim, loosen the lock nuts, turn the adjuster screws and retighten.
Fits: platform code 42
Don't miss
- Both template recesses must make full contact with trim and glass on the same plane.
- Hold the glass in the corrected position while tightening the regulator nuts.
- The two lower adjuster screws turn in opposite directions.
- Refit the sealing plugs in the door bottom edge after adjusting.

📋 Procedure
- Use side "“A”" of template T40205/1 to check whether lateral adjustment of door window is correct.
- Recess in side "“A”" of template T40205/1 must make full contact with triangular A-pillar trim (1) and door window (3).
- Recess in side "“A”" of template T40205/1 must make full contact with roof trim strip and door window on the same plane as edge of roof (2) at windscreen.
- If lateral adjustment of door window is not correct, adjust door window.
- To check parallel adjustment, apply template T40205/2 to door window (1) and side window (2), as shown in illustration.
- To check gap width, apply template T40205/2 to door window and side window, as shown in illustration.
- If lateral adjustment of door window is not correct, adjust door window.
- To laterally adjust door window in top section, take out sealing plugs (1) and (2) at bottom edge of door.
- Loosen each of window regulator nuts (3) at bottom (access through large holes).
- Move door window in corresponding direction and hold in this position when tightening nuts.
- To adjust door window laterally in bottom section, remove door trim 70.
- Take out sealing plug (1).
- To adjust, loosen lock nuts (2) and turn adjuster screw with Torx socket wrench. [Note: Adjuster screws are turned in opposite directions.]
- After adjusting, tighten lock nut.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
