Adjusting side window (lateral adjustment): Audi A3

Step-by-step adjusting side window (lateral adjustment) for the Audi A3: 10 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

This covers the lateral adjustment of a frameless side window on the Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012), used when the glass sits too far in or out against the seals. The mounting element for the window is slackened, then the lock nut on the adjusting pin is loosened and the pin itself turned with a Torx socket wrench to move the glass. Once the position is right, the lock nut is tightened and the mounting element's nuts and bolts are tightened again. The same sequence repeats for each adjustment point, and on the rear the window regulator can also be moved with its own adjuster screw. Check the result by closing the door slowly and watching how the glass meets the seal before calling it done.

10 steps

🧭 Before you start

Loosen the nuts and bolts on the window mounting element, slacken the adjusting pin lock nut and turn the pin with a Torx socket wrench to position the glass. Tighten the lock nut, repeat for each adjustment point and, where needed, adjust the regulator with its adjuster screw. Finally tighten the mounting nuts and bolts.

Fits: Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012)

Don't miss

  • Loosen the mounting element fasteners before turning the adjusting pin.
  • Hold the adjusting pin while tightening its lock nut so the setting does not move.
  • Tighten the lock nut to the specified torque after each adjustment.
  • Close the door slowly and check the glass contact with the seal before finishing.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
