Checking activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1N80 — AUDI
Checking activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1N80 on Audi: 22 steps, engines BAM, BFV. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi TT Mk1 (8N)
- Renewed: solenoid valve, engine control unit removing
Don't miss
- Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information systemVAS 5051 A and select vehicle system "“01 - Engine electronics”". The ignition must be switched on when doing so.
- The activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1N80 is supplied with power by way of the fuel pump relay J17.
- Connect 121-pin adapter cableV.A.G 1598/31 (test box) to wiring harness to engine control unit, but do not connect actual engine control unit .
📋 Procedure
- Detach hoses from solenoid valve.
- Attach a test hose to one of the solenoid valve connections.
- Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information systemVAS 5051 A and select vehicle system "“01 - Engine electronics”". The ignition must be switched on when doing so.
- Start final control diagnosis and actuate the activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1N80.
- Check internal resistance of solenoid valve.
- Replace solenoid valve.
- Unplug connector at activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1N80.
- Connect up multimeter (resistance measuring range) between contacts (1) and (2) at solenoid valve.
- Replace solenoid valve.
- Check power supply. [Note: The activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1N80 is supplied with power by way of the fuel pump relay J17.]
- Unplug connector at activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1N80.
- Connect up voltage testerV.A.G 1527 B between contact (1) and earth.
- Briefly operate starter (engine may also start).
- Use current flow diagram to check wiring from contact (1) of connector via fuse to fuel pump relay J17 for open circuit.
- Repair wiring if necessary.
- Check actuation.
- Connect up voltage testerV.A.G 1527 B between contacts (1) (positive) and (2) of connector.
- Start final control diagnosis and actuate the activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1N80.
- Connect 121-pin adapter cableV.A.G 1598/31 (test box) to wiring harness to engine control unit, but do not connect actual engine control unit .
- Check for open circuit and short to earth or positive in the following wiring:
- Repair wiring if necessary.
- Replace engine control unit Removing and installing engine control unit without protective housing or Removing and installing engine control unit with protective housing.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
