Repair with an exchange component
What is an exchange component?
The exchange component
arrow
is an inexpensive parts set. It contains all clutches, both brakes,
ATF
pump, planetary gearbox and valve body. You can see the content of the exchange component here
Anchor
.
For a description of the exchange component and the measuring procedure for adjusting when installing, please also refer to VW/Audi TV programme
No. 42; API Technology Direct
dated 28.02.1998.
You can order this delivery by phoning the hotline
“++49 5423 94 34 44”
and quoting order no. 042.5124.67.01.
The parts that make up the exchange component can be seen here

.
Conductor strip of valve body, oil pan seal and cover seal must be requested separately if needed.
The following are not included either: O-rings for
ATF
cooler and
ATF
filler pipe,
multi-function switch
F125
,
gearbox speed sender
G38
and
driving speed sender
G68
.
These parts must be requested additionally if they are required.
How can an exchange component be obtained?
The exchange component is assigned to the gearbox code letter like any other part, which means it can be selected from the
Electronic parts catalogue
.
What work is required when installing an exchange component?
Only the clutch play needs to be adjusted when the exchange component is installed. In contrast to a complete repair, there is no need to perform any other adjusting jobs.
This workshop manual only describes the installation of an exchange component. Removal is the same as the sequence in:
“Dismantling planetary gearbox”

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
