Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

🧭 Before you start

Fits: platform codes AV2, AV3, AY3

  • Opens: power steering fluid
  • Special tools named: T10356/5
  • Renewed: mechatronic unit, retaining ring

Don't miss

  • The dual clutch is pulled off upwards. The mechatronic unit remains on the gearbox.
  • Bolts (A), secure with nut as required.
  • Risk of damage to clutch and other components!Push down clutch using only very light force. — To press down, turn spindle against thrust piece T10376.
  • Only a few, »older« gearboxes do not have a clip.

📋 Procedure

  1. Removing gearbox:
  2. Pull off both breather caps (arrows) and seal using suitable plugs, e.g. those from engine bung setVAS 6122 to achieve an oil-tight seal. [Note: The dual clutch is pulled off upwards. The mechatronic unit remains on the gearbox.]
  3. ⚠ For some gearboxes the breather cap on the mechatronic unit is destroyed during removal and must be renewed. It is not possible to check the fill level of the hydraulic fluid section of the mechatronic unit. Before repairs, the breather of the mechatronic unit must be sealed so that no oil can escape.Oil which escapes from the hydraulic fluid section of the mechatronic unit cannot be replenished, nor can the oil level be checked. Renew mechatronic unit if any oil escaped! — Remove retaining ring (arrow) for hub.
  4. Remove hub with hook3438 and a screwdriver.
  5. Remove retaining ring (arrow) for clutch. [Note: If the retaining ring cannot be removed it is because the clutch has »clamped« the retaining ring at the bottom. In this case, push the clutch down slightly (see following description) and release the load on the retaining ring. Never strike the clutch or shaft with a hammer!Always renew retaining ring.]

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
