🧭 Before you start

Fits: platform codes A32, A33

  • Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
  • Special tools named: T03003

Don't miss

  • Unscrew sealing plug (arrow) for "“TDC”" marking from cylinder block.
  • Screw locking pin T40069 into locating groove, and tighten it to 15 Nm. If necessary, rotate crankshaft slightly back and forth to ensure pin is properly centred.
  • Risk of eye injury.Wear safety goggles. — Remove sealant residue from top section of sump (1) and cylinder block using rotating plastic brush or similar.
  • Observe expiry date of sealing compound.
  • Cut off nozzle on tube at front marking (diameter of nozzle approx. 1.5 mm).

20 Nm (15 lb-ft)Bolt plates 2036/1 to cylinder block as shown in illustration, and tighten them

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. Use wrench T03003 to turn crankshaft in direction of engine rotation (arrow) to "“TDC”" position.
  2. Unscrew sealing plug (arrow) for "“TDC”" marking from cylinder block.
  3. Screw locking pin T40069 into locating groove, and tighten it to 15 Nm. If necessary, rotate crankshaft slightly back and forth to ensure pin is properly centred. — 15 Nm (11 lb-ft)
  4. Remove sealing flange (belt pulley end) .
  5. Remove lower timing chain cover .

  1. Use a screwdriver to lever guide rail (1) in direction of arrow (a), and lock it in place using locking pin T03006(arrow b).
  2. Remove guide rail (1)(arrow).
  3. Remove bottom section of sump .
  4. Unscrew bolts (1) and (3).
  5. Remove oil suction pipe (2) with retaining plate (4)(arrow).
  6. Unscrew bolts (1).
  7. Carefully detach top section of sump from bonded joint. To do this, fit screwdriver (A) at the positions shown in illustration.
  8. ⚠ Risk of eye injury.Wear safety goggles. — Remove sealant residue from top section of sump (1) and cylinder block using rotating plastic brush or similar.
  9. Clean sealing surfaces; they must be oil and grease free. [Note: Observe expiry date of sealing compound.]
  10. Cut off nozzle on tube at front marking (diameter of nozzle approx. 1.5 mm).
  11. ⚠ Danger of blocking lubrication system with excess sealant.Do not apply sealant bead thicker than specified. — Apply beads of sealant (1, 2, 3) onto clean sealing surfaces of top section of sump as shown in illustration. [Note: The top section of sump must be installed within 5 minutes after the sealant has been applied.]
  12. Fit top section of sump.
  13. Screw in bolts (1) as far as stop by hand.
  14. Wipe off any excess sealant at the positions marked with (arrows).
  15. Slightly loosen bolts.
  16. Bolt plates 2036/1 to cylinder block as shown in illustration, and tighten them to 20 Nm. — 20 Nm (15 lb-ft)
  17. Press top section of sump (A) firmly against plates.
  18. Start remaining bolts for top section of sump, and tighten all bolts .
  19. Install bottom section of sump .
  20. Install guide rail (1) at bottom. [Note: If necessary, use the counter-hold tool T10172A to preload the drive chain for valve gear via the oil pump chain sprocket to ease the installation of the guide rail.]
  21. Use a screwdriver to lever guide rail (1) in direction of arrow (a), and pull out locking pin T03006(arrow b).
  22. Install lower timing chain cover .
  23. Install sealing flange (belt pulley end) .
  24. Unscrew locking pin T40069(arrow).
  25. Tighten sealing plug for "“TDC”" marking.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
