Removing and installing starter battery in vehicle interior — VW
Removing and installing starter battery in vehicle interior on VW: factory workshop procedure. Full factory text, tools and checks.
Workshop procedure for VW — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.
📋 Procedure
ℹ️ Torque figures below come verbatim from workshop data — always cross-check against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening.
Removing and installing starter battery in vehicle interior
Replacing battery on vehicles with Start/Stop system:
Because of its higher deep-cycle resistance, only an absorbent glass mat battery is used as a starter battery instead of the normal lead battery in vehicles with Start/Stop system.
In case of repair, note correct part number designation in the parts catalogue. The modified components for the Start/Stop system have no special markings. They do not differ externally, or hardly, from standard components.
Note
In vehicles with a battery sensor (start-stop system), the battery has to be parameterised after a new starter battery has been installed.
The battery parameterisation sends the technical data of the new battery to the battery monitor.

Installing:
Caution
A loosely fitted battery creates the following dangers:
Shortened service life due to damage from vibration (danger of explosion)
The cells in the battery will be damaged if the battery is not secured correctly.
Damage to battery housing by securing bracket (possibility of acid leaking, with high consequential costs)
Poor crash safety.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing observe the following:
Tighten securing bolts of battery retainer to 20 Nm.
After installing battery, check it is firmly seated.

Note
On batteries with a hose for central venting, ensure that the hose is not pinched when passing the hose through the opening in the battery housing

. Only then can the battery vent freely.
On vehicles with Start/Stop system, the procedure
“Parameterising battery after replacement”
has to be performed after the battery is replaced

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
