Removing and installing rear belt buckle: VW Golf VII Variant / Golf VII
Step-by-step removing and installing rear belt buckle for the VW Golf VII Variant / Golf VII: 7 steps, 4 torque figures.
Changing the rear belt buckle on the VW Golf VII and Golf VII Variant (5G, BA5, also code BE1) starts with removing the rear bench or single seats, which exposes the buckle anchors on the floor. Each buckle has a belt switch connector that is unplugged before the nut is undone. Note that on these cars the single buckle with its belt end fitting belongs to the rear centre seat belt, so it is detached from that end fitting rather than replaced on its own, and a double buckle is fitted on the other side. The job is quick. What matters is the anchor torque of 40 Nm, refitting the belt switch connectors so the belt warning works, and keeping the buckles facing correctly before the seat goes back in.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the rear bench or single seats. Unplug the belt switch connector, undo the nut and take the buckle off the belt end fitting; for the double buckle, unplug its connector, undo the nut and remove it. Refit in reverse, tightening the anchor fixings to 40 Nm and plugging the belt switch connectors back in before the seats are refitted.
Fits: VW Golf VII Variant (BA), VW Golf VII (5G, 2012–2020); platform code BE1
Don't miss
- Single buckle with belt end fitting is part of the rear centre seat belt.
- Unplug the belt switch connector before undoing the anchor nut.
- Anchor fixings are tightened to 40 Nm.
- Reconnect the belt switch connectors, then check the belt warning after the seats are back in.
- Make sure the buckles face upwards and are not twisted under the seat cushion (general practice).

🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) | Remove bolt (1 |
| 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) | Remove bolts (1) and (2 |
| 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) | Unscrew bolt (1 |
| 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) | Unscrew bolt (2 |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
