Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: VW Polo 6R (2009–2014), VW Touran I (1T, 2003–2015), VW Passat B6 (3C, 2005–2010), VW Golf VI (5K, 2008–2013), VW Golf Cabriolet (517, 2011–2016), VW Passat B7 saloon (362, 2010–2014), VW Passat B7 Variant (365, 2010–2014); platform code 521
Don't miss
- Before installing poly V-belt, ensure that all ancillaries (alternator, air conditioner compressor) are secured tightly. When installing poly V-belt, check direction of belt rotation and proper seating of belt in pulleys.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 8 Nm (5.9 lb-ft) | Move coolant lines (5) back to installation positions and tighten (3, 4, 6 |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Remove noise insulation:
- Loosen right wheel housing liner in front area.
- Unscrew bolts (3, 4, 6).
- Carefully push coolant lines (5) slightly to the side.

- Now insert idler pulley, with its bolt, into guide of ancillary bracket.
- Tighten bolt in 5 stages.
- Move coolant lines (5) back to installation positions and tighten (3, 4, 6). 8 Nm. — 8 Nm (5.9 lb-ft)
- Turn engine at least one turn in direction of rotation at the belt pulley/vibration damper central bolt. [Note: Before installing poly V-belt, ensure that all ancillaries (alternator, air conditioner compressor) are secured tightly. When installing poly V-belt, check direction of belt rotation and proper seating of belt in pulleys.]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
