Removing and installing particulate filter (LHD): VW Polo 6R 1.2 TDI (CFWA)
Step-by-step removing and installing particulate filter (LHD) for the VW Polo 6R 1.2 TDI (CFWA): 32 steps.
The particulate filter on the left-hand-drive Polo 6R with the CFWA engine needs the subframe lowered to make room. Start with the wheels straight and the steering universal joint disconnected, then remove the engine cover, unplug pressure differential sender G505 and free the lines and heat shield. Lambda probe G39 and the exhaust temperature senders come out with their own spanners, the clamp to the turbocharger is removed and the bracket swung forwards. Under the car, the pendulum support comes off, the subframe bolts are swapped one at a time for locking pins and the subframe lowered on the jack, no more than 10 cm on the right and 7 cm on the left so the hydraulic lines are not overstretched. Keep the front pipe flexible joint within 10° and turn the filter 180° to remove it.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect the steering universal joint, remove the engine cover, G505 connector, heat shield, lambda probe, temperature senders and turbocharger clamp. Remove the pendulum support, lower the subframe on pins and jack within the stated limits, remove the drive shaft heat shield and filter bracket, slide the front pipe clamping sleeve back and turn the filter out. Refit with new seals, self-locking nuts and clip, reinstall the subframe and align the exhaust free of stress.
Fits: VW Polo 6R (2009–2014)
- Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
- Renewed: with locking pins, seals, defective cable ties
Don't miss
- Lower the subframe no more than 10 cm on the right and 7 cm on the left.
- Secure the subframe with strap T00038 so the hydraulic lines are not stressed.
- Do not bend the front pipe flexible joint more than 10°; fit the transportation sleeve if reusing the filter.
- Renew seals, self-locking nuts and the filter clip.
- Align the exhaust free of stress after the subframe is back in.

📋 Procedure
- Turn wheels to straight-ahead position.
- Loosen universal joint Running gear, axles, steering48Removing and installing steering column.
- To do this, remove cover (2) and unscrew plastic nuts (1).
- Unscrew bolt (1) from universal joint and pull universal joint off in direction of arrow.
- Remove engine cover panel .
- Detach following connectors and make lines accessible.
- Separate connector to pressure differential sender G505(2).
- Remove bolt (3).
- Pull lines out of retainers on engine and remove heat shield from particulate filter; if necessary remove cable ties.
- Unscrew Lambda probe G39 using Lambda probe open ring spanner set3337.
- Unscrew exhaust temperature sender 3G495 using spanner T10395/6.
- Remove securing clamp (1) between particulate filter and turbocharger.
- Unscrew bolts (2).
- Undo bolt (3) and swivel bracket towards the front.
- Remove noise insulation General body repairs, exterior50.
- Open bracket (B) of hydraulic lines (A).
- Remove pendulum support (arrows).
- Place engine and gearbox jack engine and gearbox jackVAG 1383A below subframe.
- Unscrew subframe bolts individually and replace with locking pins. Running gear, axles, steering40
- Loosen anti-roll bar at top of coupling rod Running gear, axles, steering40.
- Carefully lower subframe with engine and gearbox jackVAG 1383A; steering remains on subframe.
- Lower on the right side max. 10 cm (movement arrow).
- To prevent the hydraulic lines being overstretched, lower on the left side max. 7 cm. [Note: Secure subframe with steering rack to underbody of vehicle using tensioning strap T00038, so that the hydraulic lines are not stressed.]
- Unscrew bolts (1) and remove heat shield for right drive shaft.
- Unscrew exhaust gas temperature sender 4G648(item 1) from exhaust pipe downstream of particulate filter.
- Unscrew bolts (1) and then nuts (2).
- Remove particulate filter bracket. [Note: The flexible joint in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10° - otherwise it can be damaged. If the particulate filter is to be re-installed, a transportation sleeve (arrow) must always be secured to the flexible joint in front exhaust pipe.]
- Loosen securing bolts (arrows) of clamping sleeve, then push down backwards from front exhaust pipe.
- Detach front exhaust pipe from mounting brackets.
- Remove particulate filter by turning 180° around its own axis. [Note: Renew seals, self-locking nuts and clip for particulate filter.Renew defective cable ties; install in the same location when assembling.]
- Install subframe Running gear, axles, steering40Removing and installing subframe with steering rack.
- Aligning exhaust system free of stress .

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
