Removing and installing parking aid control unit J446, right-hand drive vehicle — VW

Removing and installing parking aid control unit J446, right-hand drive vehicle on VW: 8 steps, 2 torque figures.

On right-hand drive VW Touareg II (platform codes 7P5 and 7P6, 2010–2018) the parking aid control unit J446 sits on a control unit bracket behind the driver-side fuse holder, hence the separate right-hand drive procedure. The fuse holder has to come out because of the wiring harness behind it, though its wires can stay connected. The bracket for the convenience system central control unit J393 is removed, the control unit bracket is lowered on its 3 securing bolts as far as the connected wiring allows, the 3 connectors are released and J446 is unscrewed from the bracket. The torque figure is small and worth respecting: the bolt holding J446 to the bracket is tightened to 1.5 Nm, and only after the unit has been pushed fully into its mounting.

🧭 Before you start

Ignition off and key out, then the driver-side fuse holder is removed with its wires still connected, followed by the bracket for the convenience system central control unit J393. The control unit bracket is unscrewed at its 3 securing bolts and lowered carefully on the connected wiring, the 3 connectors are released, and the securing bolt is undone to free the parking aid control unit J446 from the bracket. When installing, J446 is first pushed into its mounting on the bracket and then its bolt is tightened to 1.5 Nm; everything else goes back in reverse.

Fits: VW Touareg II (7P, 2010–2018)

Don't miss

  • The driver-side fuse holder must come out, but its wires can stay connected.
  • Lower the control unit bracket only as far as the connected wiring allows.
  • Push J446 fully into its mounting on the bracket before tightening.
  • Bolt securing J446 to the bracket: 1.5 Nm. Do not go by feel on a plastic bracket.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
