Removing and installing oil pump, engine codes BGP, BGQ and BTK — VW
Removing and installing oil pump, engine codes BGP, BGQ and BTK on VW: 21 steps, 1 torque figure, engines BGP, BGQ, BTK.
Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: VW Golf V / Jetta (1K, 2003–2009); platform code AJ5
- Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
- Renewed: o-ring
Don't miss
- This work step is important to assure the correct position of the chain sprockets to each other.
- Reinstall securing bolt T40069. When doing this, the crankshaft may only be moved slightly to the left and right of the TDC position. There is otherwise a risk of the valves striking the piston.
- Ensure that the drive chain is located correctly in the guide rail (4) and the tensioning rail (3).
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) | In this condition, first tighten bolts (2) and (3) and then bolt (4) |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Remove upper part of sump .
- Tension chain tensioner (1), lock using locking pin T10115 and remove.
- Remove bolt (1).
- Remove chain sprocket from oil pump and unbolt oil pump.
- Renew O-ring and bolt oil pump by hand on cylinder block.
- Place chain sprocket with lettering outwards on oil pump shaft and tighten with new bolt (1) (drive chain not yet fitted).
- Loosen bolts (2…4).
- Check oil pump lock T03005 to see if protective plates are still on magnets. Remove these if necessary.
- Check that there are no metal shavings on the magnets of the oil pump lock T03005.
- Fit oil pump lock T03005 on crankshaft journal and secure it using 2 bolts (1) from the vibration damper/belt pulley.
- Remove securing bolt T40069.
- Push crankshaft along axial bearing play in direction of belt drive (arrow 1) and secure it with (wedge), as shown in diagram.
- Push oil pump lightly along axial play in direction of chain drive (arrow 2). [Note: This work step is important to assure the correct position of the chain sprockets to each other.]
- In this condition, first tighten bolts (2) and (3) and then bolt (4) to 25 Nm. — 25 Nm (18 lb-ft)
- Reinstall securing bolt T40069. When doing this, the crankshaft may only be moved slightly to the left and right of the TDC position. There is otherwise a risk of the valves striking the piston.
- Remove oil pump lock T03005.
- If a new oil pump is being installed, fill the oil pump via the intake channel with some clean engine oil and turn the oil pump several times.
- Place drive chain over chain sprocket of oil pump.
- Install upper part of sump .
- Install guide rail (2), relieve tension in chain tensioner (1) and pull out locking pin T10115. [Note: Ensure that the drive chain is located correctly in the guide rail (4) and the tensioning rail (3).]
- Adjust valve timing .

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
