Removing and installing fuel pressure regulating valveN 276 — VW

Removing and installing fuel pressure regulating valveN 276 on VW: 18 steps, engines CAYA, CAYB, CAYC.

Renewing the fuel pressure regulating valve N276 on the high-pressure side of the CAYA, CAYB and CAYC engines, on platform codes 162, 1K2, 163 and AJ5. The engine cover and high-pressure accumulator come off first. The valve body is cleaned around the thread before it is undone, without letting solvent into the connector, then the union nut is slackened while counterholding the housing hexagon. The valve has a deformable sealing lip and no separate seal, so it is single-use. Dirt control decides the outcome: clean threads and sealing faces by hand only and plug the drilling straight away. The new valve is aligned so its wiring is free of tension and torqued with a 36 mm open-end spanner insert, then the system is leak-tested and the event memory read.

🧭 Before you start

Remove the engine cover and high-pressure accumulator, clean and dry around the valve and undo the union nut while counterholding. Clean and plug the drilling. Lubricate the new valve's thread and sealing lip with molybdenum grease, fit it aligned, torque the union nut, refit the accumulator, then leak-check, read faults, run the engine and test drive.

Fits: VW Jetta VI (16, 2010–2018), VW Golf V / Jetta (1K, 2003–2009); platform code AJ5

  • Special tools named: torque wrench, 36 mm open-end spanner

Don't miss

  • The valve is one-use only: it has a deformable sealing lip instead of a separate seal.
  • Do not let cleaning solvent reach the electrical connector.
  • Counterhold the housing hexagon while slackening and tightening the union nut.
  • After a test drive with full throttle at least once, recheck the high-pressure side for leaks.
  • Read and clear the event memory, then read it again after the drive.

📋 Procedure

  1. ⚠ Always observe rules for cleanliness and instructions when working on fuel system .Always follow these rules for cleanliness and instructions before starting work and while working on the fuel system. — Remove engine cover panel .
  2. Removing high-pressure accumulator .
  3. Clean threaded area around fuel pressure regulating valveN 276 (e.g. with standard cleaning solution) before removing. [Note: Clean carefully; cleaning solvent must not enter the electrical connector.]
  4. Dry fuel pressure regulating valveN 276.
  5. Slacken union nut (counterhold at hexagonal flats on housing). Then unscrew and remove by hand.

  1. Extract dirt from threads and sealing surfaces. Do not use tools or other instruments for this purpose. [Note: Seal off drilling immediately with a suitable plug to prevent dirt from entering.] [Note: The fuel pressure regulating valveN 276 has a deformable sealing lip and no separate seal; it can therefore be used only once.Check that sealing surfaces (deformable sealing lip) and threads on new fuel pressure regulating valveN 276 are not damaged.Check sealing surface of drilling.Lubricate thread and deformable sealing lip of fuel pressure regulating valveN 276 with Molybdenum grease.]
  2. Screw on union nut by hand.
  3. Align new regulating valve so that the connecting line is free of tension after connector is attached.
  4. Hold regulating valve in this position with an open-end spanner on housing hexagon or use for example multi slip-joint pliers for this.
  5. To tighten union nut, use a suitable torque wrench with a 36 mm open-end spanner insert.
  6. Install high-pressure accumulator .
  7. Check fuel system for leaks.
  8. Connect vehicle diagnosis tester.
  9. Read event memory and erase stored event entry if necessary.
  10. After installation, run engine at moderate speed for several minutes and then switch off.
  11. Then test drive the vehicle, accelerating to full throttle at least once.
  12. Then check high-pressure part of fuel system again for leakage.
  13. Read event memory again.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
