Removing and installing fuel delivery unit/fuel gauge sender, right side — VW
Removing and installing fuel delivery unit/fuel gauge sender, right side on VW: 16 steps, engines CHNA, CMVA, CPFA, AYT.
The right-side fuel delivery unit and fuel gauge sender on the VW platform code listed below, with the engine codes CHNA, CMVA and CPFA, are reached through the luggage compartment floor, complicated by hoses linking both halves of the tank. After the safety precautions, the cover is removed, the connectors are pulled off the flange and the locking ring is undone with tool 3087. Under both flanges, connectors, the plunger-type sender, the filler hose, the suction-jet pump return hose and the supply and return lines are released in order, and the supply hose is pulled off the Y-piece and fed out through the right opening. Then the retaining clips are pushed aside and the unit is lifted out slowly, kept level because its housing is full of fuel and will spill if tipped.
🧭 Before you start
Observe the safety precautions, remove the floor cover and flange connectors and unscrew the locking ring with 3087. Disconnect the connectors under both flanges, unclip the plunger-type sender, filler hose and suction-jet pump return hose, and pull off the supply and return lines. Free the supply hose from the Y-piece, push the retaining clips aside and lift the delivery unit out level. The suction-jet pump and the fuel gauge sender can then be unclipped and removed.
Fits: VW Phaeton (3D)
Don't miss
- Follow fuel safety precautions before opening the sender flange.
- Use fuel tank sender unit tool 3087 for the locking ring.
- Keep the fuel delivery unit level when lifting it out; the housing is full of fuel.
- Route the supply and suction-jet pump hoses back through the right-hand opening as removed.
- Fit a new flange seal on reassembly, as general practice.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
