🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 0.9 Nm (0.7 lb-ft) | Loosen nut |
| 3 Nm (2.2 lb-ft) | Unscrew bolts (2 |
| 3 Nm (2.2 lb-ft) | Unscrew upper bolt (1 |
| 3.0 Nm (2.2 lb-ft) | Fit low pressure line (1) to new air conditioner compressor with bolt (2 |
| 3.0 Nm (2.2 lb-ft) | Unscrew bolt (1 |
| 3.0 Nm (2.2 lb-ft) | Unscrew bolt (2 |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Observe safety precautions when working on the high-voltage system Safety precautions when working on high-voltage system.
- Observe safety precautions when working in the vicinity of high-voltage components Safety precautions when working in the vicinity of high-voltage components.
- Comply with notes Working on refrigerant circuit.
- Observe risk category of high-voltage system 93General warning instructions for work on the high-voltage system.
- Now de-energise the high-voltage system Electric drive93De-energising the high-voltage system.
- Extract refrigerant with air conditioning service station. Comply with notes .
- Remove front left wheel housing liner Exterior equipment66Wheel housing liners.
- Unscrew bolts (2) (25 ± 3 Nm) for air conditioner compressor (1); whilst doing this, press hose (3) down slightly. — 3 Nm (2.2 lb-ft)
- Remove engine cover panel Engine10.
- Remove power and control electronics for electric drive Electric drive93.
- Pull high-voltage wire (1) from AC compressor (arrow). [Note: Do not turn connector. Danger of destruction.]
- Pull connector (arrow) from AC compressor.
- Loosen nut (8 ± 0.9 Nm) and open clamp (arrow). Unscrew bolt (1) (12 ± 1.5 Nm). Separate low pressure line (2) above engine and seal using suitable plugs/bungs. — 0.9 Nm (0.7 lb-ft)
- Unscrew bolt (1) (20 ± 3.0 Nm), remove high-pressure line (2) from AC compressor and seal with suitable bungs. — 3.0 Nm (2.2 lb-ft)
- Unscrew upper bolt (1) (25 ± 3 Nm) from air conditioner compressor (arrow). — 3 Nm (2.2 lb-ft)
- Turn AC compressor slightly to the right (arrow 1) and guide towards radiator (arrow 2).
- Turn AC compressor approx. 90° to the right and remove upwards with the front side leading (arrow).
- Unscrew bolt (2) (20 ± 3.0 Nm) and remove low pressure line (1) from AC compressor. [Note: The bolting points of the air conditioner compressor and the engine must be checked prior to installation. The contact surfaces must be clean, rust- and grease-free.Otherwise, repair the contact surfaces using the contact surface cleaning setVAS 6410Electrical system; General information97Contact surface cleaning set VAS 6410.] — 3.0 Nm (2.2 lb-ft)
- Fit low pressure line (1) to new air conditioner compressor with bolt (2) (20 ± 3.0 Nm) and then install air conditioner compressor in reverse order of removal. [Note: If the air conditioner compressor control unit J842 is defective, the amount of refrigerant in the new air conditioner compressor should be adjusted. The refrigerant circuit must not be flushed with R134a.The procedure for purging with refrigerant R134a is described in the workshop information under Air conditioning system with refrigerant R134a00Clearing refrigerant circuit of contaminants; Purging (cleaning) refrigerant circuit with refrigerant R134a.] — 3.0 Nm (2.2 lb-ft)

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
