Removing and installing door arrester: VW Polo 6C
Step-by-step removing and installing door arrester for the VW Polo 6C: 7 steps, 5 torque figures. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what.
The door check strap on the VW Polo (6C, 2014–2017) is reached through the loudspeaker opening, so the bass speaker comes out first. The strap is held by one bolt at the B-pillar and by bolts inside the door; once those are out, it is fed back through the speaker hole. The job is quick, but check the cover on the strap is properly seated before it goes back in, otherwise the door creaks or the cover chafes. Refitting is the reverse, and the torques matter here because this strap stops the door at its open positions and takes a beating every time the door is flung open: the door-side bolts get 9 Nm and the B-pillar bolt 30 Nm. Refit the loudspeaker carefully so the seal sits flat.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the rear bass loudspeaker for access, undo the bolt on the B-pillar and the door-side bolts, and withdraw the strap through the speaker opening. Check the cover is seated on the strap, feed it back in, tighten the door-side bolts to 9 Nm and the B-pillar bolt to 30 Nm, then refit the loudspeaker.
Fits: VW Polo 6C (2014–2017)
Don't miss
- Access is through the loudspeaker opening; remove the bass loudspeaker first.
- Check the cover is seated correctly on the strap before refitting.
- Door-side bolts take 9 Nm and the B-pillar bolt 30 Nm.
- Open and close the door through its detents afterwards to confirm the strap holds each position.

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 10 Nm (7.4 lb-ft) | Loosen screw (1) and nuts (2 |

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
