Fits: VW Phaeton (3D)

Don't miss

  • When nut is loosened, rear final drive must be supported with engine and gearbox jackV.A.G 1383 A and gearbox supportV.A.G 1359/2.
  • Wear protective gloves! — Heat inner race to about 100° C before installing.
  • When nut is tightened, rear final drive must be supported with engine and gearbox jackV.A.G 1383 A and gearbox supportV.A.G 1359/2.

📋 Procedure

  1. Secure final drive to repair stand
  2. Screw in 2 hexagon bolts (A) M 8 x 30.
  3. When nut is loosened, rear final drive must be supported with engine and gearbox jackV.A.G 1383 A and gearbox supportV.A.G 1359/2.

  1. ⚠ Wear protective gloves! — Heat inner race to about 100° C before installing.
  2. Insert previously determined shim "S3" for pinion shaft.
  3. Lubricate outer race first and press in with driftVW 295 and thrust plate30-205.
  4. Insert pinion shaft with new spacer sleeve.
  5. ⚠ Wear protective gloves! — Heat inner race to about 100 °C.
  6. Press pinion shaft up and press inner race in fully to stop with press sleeve40-21.
  7. Insert O-ring with gear oil.
  8. Apply gear oil to circumference and sealing lips of seal.
  9. Half-fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with sealing greaseG 052 128 A1.
  10. Drive new oil seal into rear final drive housing to stop, being careful not to cant seal.
  11. Drive propshaft flange onto pinion shaft far enough that securing nut can be fitted.
  12. Screw in 2 hexagon bolts (A) M 8 x 30.
  13. When nut is tightened, rear final drive must be supported with engine and gearbox jackV.A.G 1383 A and gearbox supportV.A.G 1359/2.
  14. Increase torque setting slowly and check friction torque at regular intervals. If the prescribed friction torque is exceeded, the spacer sleeve must be renewed and the adjustment repeated. A spacer sleeve which has been compressed too much cannot be reused.
  15. To measure friction torque, use bearing preload gaugeVAS 6222 and long socket insertSW 36.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
