Removing and installing crash sensor for front airbag G190 — VW
Removing and installing crash sensor for front airbag G190 on VW: 7 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to.
The crash sensor for the front airbag, G190, sits on the tension strut behind the radiator grille of the Sharan II/Alhambra 2010– (7N1, 7N2), so replacing it is a quick job once the safety side is handled properly. It is a pyrotechnic-system component: the battery is disconnected first, following the general safety regulations for airbags, belt tensioners and battery isolators, and it is reconnected at the end with the ignition switched on and nobody in the vehicle. Between those two points the work is small. The radiator grille comes off, one bolt is undone, the sensor lifts off the strut and the connector is released after its lock is opened. Installation is the reverse, with the bolt tightened to 6 Nm. Treat the sensor as electronics: no dropping, no forcing the connector, and seat it squarely on the strut.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect the vehicle battery under the airbag safety regulations, then remove the radiator grille to expose the tension strut. Undo the single bolt, lift the crash sensor off the strut, release the connector lock and pull the connector off. Fit the new sensor in reverse order with the bolt at 6 Nm, switch the ignition on, make sure the cabin is empty and reconnect the battery.
Fits: VW Sharan II / SEAT Alhambra (7N, 2010–)
Don't miss
- Disconnect the battery before touching the sensor; it is part of the pyrotechnic airbag system.
- Sensor bolt: 6 Nm.
- Release the connector locking mechanism before pulling the connector; do not tug the wiring.
- Reconnect the battery with the ignition on and nobody inside the vehicle.

🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 6 Nm (4.4 lb-ft) | Unscrew bolt (1 |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
