Removing and installing coolant shut-off valve: VW Touareg II 3.0 TDI (CGNA, CJGD, CJMA, CNRB, …)
Step-by-step removing and installing coolant shut-off valve for the VW Touareg II 3.0 TDI: 8 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
On the Touareg II (7P, 2010–2018) with the CGNA, CJGD, CJMA, CNRB, CRCA, CVVA and CVWA engines, the coolant shut-off valve sits under the exhaust gas recirculation hardware, so the EGR cooler comes off first. The screw-type clip and the EGR pipe at the turbocharger are then removed, which exposes the shut-off valve and its coolant connection. The valve is unbolted, its vacuum hose pulled off, and the coolant connection taken away after the hose clip is loosened. Rebuilding is the reverse: valve and connection in, EGR pipe back on the turbocharger and the cooler refitted. The job only stays dry if the seals and O-ring are renewed and every hose joint is secured with production-standard clips.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the EGR cooler, loosen the screw-type clip and unbolt the EGR pipe at the turbocharger. Unbolt the shut-off valve with its coolant connection, pull off the vacuum hose and remove the connection. Refit with new seals and O-ring, reconnect the vacuum hose, install the EGR pipe and cooler, then top up and check the cooling system for leaks.
Fits: VW Touareg II (7P, 2010–2018)
- Renewed: seals
Don't miss
- Renew the seals and O-ring on the coolant connection.
- Secure every hose connection with production-standard hose clips.
- Reconnect the vacuum hose to the shut-off valve before refitting the EGR parts.
- General practice: top up and check for coolant leaks with the engine warm after reassembly.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
