Removing and installing clutch pedal, CC — VW
Removing and installing clutch pedal, CC on VW: 13 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
On the VW CC (358, 2012–2017) the clutch pedal is not changed in the car. The workshop steps take the whole pedal mounting bracket out and clamp it in a vice with soft jaws, which turns a cramped footwell job into a bench job. On the bench the pedal is unbolted from the bracket, swung forward so the over-centre spring can be lifted out, and then released from the clutch master cylinder push rod with pliers T10005. Refitting is where it can go wrong: the retainer has to click audibly into the pedal's notch, the over-centre spring is loaded back in from above with release tool T10178 holding its end, and the pedal tip has to sit in the spring's bearing recess before the bolt goes through. The self-locking nuts are not reused.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the pedal mounting bracket from the car and clamp it in a vice with protective jaws. Take out the nut and bolt holding the pedal, swing the pedal forward to free the over-centre spring, release the pedal from the master cylinder with pliers T10005 and lift it off. To rebuild, fit the retainer to the master cylinder operating rod and press it into the pedal notch until it clicks, load the over-centre spring from above with release tool T10178, seat the pedal tip in the spring recess, push the bolt through with the pedal slightly depressed and fit a new self-locking nut, then refit the bracket.
Fits: VW CC (358, 2012–2017)
- Renewed: self-locking nuts
Don't miss
- Renew the self-locking nuts; the old ones are not refitted.
- The retainer on the master cylinder operating rod must be heard to engage in the pedal notch.
- Load the over-centre spring from above with release tool T10178 holding its end in the installation position.
- Seat the tip of the pedal in the spring's bearing recess before the pivot bolt goes through.
- Depress the pedal slightly to line up the bolt rather than forcing it through against the spring.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
