- Unscrew bolts (arrows) and remove crankcase breather.
- Remove actuators for camshaft adjustment .
- Turn assembly tool T10352/2 in direction of (arrow) to remove regulating valves on left and right.
- ⚠ The regulating valves have left-hand threads. — Unscrew bolts (arrows) and remove bearing saddle.
- Turn vibration damper to TDC position using counterhold tool T10355.
- Turn vibration damper to TDC position using counterhold tool T10355.
- Mark positions of chain sprocket markings (1) on camshaft timing chain and cylinder head (arrows) using a permanent felt tip marker.
- Also mark alignment of camshaft timing chain (2) relative to guide rail of camshaft timing chain using a permanent felt tip marker.
- Remove sealing plug (arrow).
- Remove bolts (arrows).
- Screw in valve lever T40243(arrows). [Note: A second mechanic is required for the following work steps.]
- Press together circlip (1) of chain tensioner and hold it in that position.
- Slowly push valve lever T40243 in (direction of arrow) and hold it in that position.
- Secure chain tensioner with locking pin T40267.
- Remove valve lever T40243.
- Bolt camshaft clamp T40271/2 to cylinder head and insert it between splines of chain sprocket in direction of (arrow 2). If necessary, turn inlet camshaft in direction of (arrow 1) using assembly tool and adapter T40266.
- Remove bolt (1) and guide tensioning rail (2) downwards.
- Bolt camshaft clamp T40271/1 to cylinder head.
- Turn exhaust camshaft in direction of (arrow 1) using assembly tool and adapter T40266, and insert camshaft clamp T40271/1 between splines of chain sprocket in direction of (arrow 2).
- Mark alignment of camshaft sprockets relative to camshaft clamp T40271/1 and camshaft clamp T40271/2(arrow).
- Use screwdriver to release catch and press off top guide rail (1) forwards.
- Remove camshaft timing chain from camshaft sprockets.
- ⚠ Risk of damage to the valves and piston crownsDo not turn the crankshaft after the camshaft timing chain has been removed from the cylinder head. — Turn vibration damper out of "“TDC”" in opposite direction of engine rotation.
- Turn inlet camshaft in direction of (arrow 1) using assembly tool and adapter T40266, remove camshaft clamp T40271/2 from between splines of chain sprocket in direction of (arrow 2) and bring camshaft into rest position.
- Turn outlet camshaft in direction of (arrow 1) using assembly tool and adapter T40266, remove camshaft clamp T40271/1 from between splines of chain sprocket in direction of (arrow 2) and bring camshaft into rest position.
- Remove high-pressure pump.
- Remove vacuum pump .
- Remove cylinder head cover bolts in the sequence (1 ... 6).
- Remove cylinder head cover.
- Detach camshafts. [Note: Sealing surfaces must be free of oil and grease.Ensure that all roller rocker fingers are properly seated on valve stem ends.Crankshaft must not be at "“TDC”" position.]
- ⚠ Risk of soiling of the lubrication system and the bearingsCover open parts of engine. — Remove sealant remaining on cylinder head with flat scraper.
- If crankshaft is turned in the meantime, position piston of No. 1 cylinder at TDC and turn crankshaft back slightly.
- Remove sealant residue from groove in cylinder head cover and from sealing surfaces.
- Clean sealing surfaces. They must be oil and grease free.
- Oil running surfaces of both camshafts.
- If camshafts have been renewed, the markings (arrows) must be transferred onto new camshafts.
- ⚠ Risk of damage to the valves and piston crownsWhen installing the camshafts, the crankshaft must not be in TDC position. — Fit inlet camshaft (A) in cylinder head. Turn cams for cylinder 4 (arrows) upwards.
- Cut off nozzle of tube at front marking (diameter of nozzle approx. 2 mm).
- Apply silicone sealant onto clean sealing surface of cylinder head cover, as shown in illustration (arrows). [Note: The cylinder head cover must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the silicone sealant. The bead of sealant must not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant can enter the sump and obstruct the strainer in the oil intake pipe.Observe use-by-date of sealant.]
- Fit exhaust camshaft in cylinder head cover as shown in illustration. Push cam pairs (A) and (B) towards each other.
- Place cylinder head cover on cylinder head with camshaft fitted.
- Renew bolts for cylinder head cover.
- Tighten bolts in several stages, tightening sequence . [Note: Take care to keep cylinder head cover level.]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
