Removing and installing alternator with voltage regulatorCX1, 3.6 l TSI engine, 220 kW — VW

📋 Procedure

1. ⚠ When batteries are disconnected and reconnected, the procedure described in the workshop manual must be strictly observed . — Disconnect battery .
2. Remove noise insulation General body repairs, exterior66Noise insulation; Removing and installing noise insulation.
3. Remove front right part of wheel housing liner General body repairs, exterior66Wheel housing liner; Removing and installing wheel housing liner.
4. ⚠ Prior to removal, mark top side and direction of rotation of poly V-belt. When installing, ensure correct fitting position and direction of rotation. If the belt is installed in the wrong position or against direction of rotation, the belt will be destroyed! — Mark the direction of travel of the poly V-belt.
5. Release poly V-belt tension by levering back tensioning device in (direction of arrow) using a 16 mm open-end spanner.

6. Lock tensioning element (2) using locking pin T10060 A(1).
7. Remove poly V-belt.
8. Remove air conditioner compressor and secure to body with suitable material (e.g. welding wire) Heating, air conditioning87Air conditioning compressor; Removing and installing air conditioning compressor from and to bracket.
9. Unscrew securing nut (arrow) from cable retainer.
10. Release and disconnect connector (2) from terminal 61.
11. Pull off protective cap (1).
12. Open retainer (3) and remove cable from retainer.
13. Unscrew securing nut (1) for battery positive cable (2) from alternator and lay battery positive cable to side.
14. Unscrew securing bolt (1) for tensioning roller (2) and remove tensioning roller.
15. Undo bolts securing alternator (arrows).
16. Remove alternator downwards from vehicle.
17. ⚠ When installing used poly V-belts observe the direction of rotation marked on removal!Before installing poly V-belt, make sure that all ancillaries (alternator, air conditioner compressor) are firmly secured.When fitting belt, ensure that poly V-belt seats correctly in pulleys! — Drive threaded sleeves (A) approx. 4 mm in (direction of arrow) out of alternator housing.
18. Secure cable retainer (arrow) on back of alternator in 9 o'clock position.
19. Tighten threaded connections to specified torques .
20. ⚠ Comply with the instructions regarding threaded connections of the battery terminals . — Connect battery .
21. Start engine and check belt running.
22. Switch off engine.
