📋 Procedure

Removing and installing air flow flap control motor
V71 with potentiometer for air flow flap control motor
G113
Note
The air flow flap control motor
V71 with potentiometer for air flow flap control motor
G113 is only installed in Passat 2006 ► models to WEEK 21/07.
On vehicles from WEEK 22/07, the function is performed by the fresh air / recirculated air, air flow flap control motor
V425 with potentiometer for fresh air / recirculated air, air flow flap control motor
G644.
The air flow flap control motor
V71 can be removed and installed without trouble only in the position
“fresh air mode stop”
. If the control motor should be stopped in a different position and cannot be moved electrically to the position
“fresh air mode stop”
, it can be pulled off and removed only with difficulty.
The position of the fresh air and air recirculation flap must not be changed.
Removing
If necessary, switch on ignition, select
“defrost” mode on the operating and display unit for Climatronic air conditioning system
E87 (control motor is always set to
“fresh air mode” in this position) and wait for control motor to reach
“fresh air mode” end position.
Switch off ignition.
Remove glove compartment (repair group 68: Compartments/covers; Removing and installing glove compartment).
Release catches (D) and (E) for retainer (A) on intake duct and remove retainer (A).
Remove
recirculated air flap control motor
V113 (see the separate procedure).
Mark connector to air recirculation flap control motor
V113 (to avoid interchanging with connector to air flow flap control motor
V71).
Remove control motor (A) from intake duct.
Note
The connection between the gears of the control motor and the air flow flap is designed so that the control motor can be removed without trouble only in the position
“fresh air mode”.
If the control motor is in a different position and can no longer be moved, it must not simply be pulled off. First, the control motor must be released from its mounting points (B) with force. During this operation, ensure that gear (C) is not damaged.
Installing
Note
The control motor is supplied as a replacement part in the position
“fresh air mode”
. It can be pushed onto the gear of the fresh air and air recirculation flap only if gear (A) is at stop (B)
. If a control motor is removed in a different position or actuated before it is removed, it cannot be installed.
If the gear (A) of the control motor is not at stop (B)
“fresh air mode”
, proceed as follows:
Connect control motor to vehicle wiring harness.
Switch on ignition.
Wait until gear (A) of control motor has reached stop (B)
“fresh air mode”.
Switch off ignition.
Before installing control motor, check mounting of air flow flap in intake duct and gear (C) (air flow flap is open,
“fresh air mode”).
Connect air flow flap control motor
V71 to vehicle wiring harness (check that correct connector is used).
Reach into intake opening for recirculated air mode and move fresh air / air recirculation flap (A) to
“fresh air mode” position (air duct opening for recirculated air mode is closed).
Insert control motor (B) in mountings (C) against direction of arrow and onto gear (D).
Note
In order for the gear on the control motor (A) to be pushed onto the gear for the air flow flap, the short tooth (C) of the control motor gear must align with the short gap between teeth (D) of the gear on the shaft of the air flow flap (D).
After installing control motor, push gear (1) back onto shaft of air flow flap in direction of arrow.
Install
air recirculation flap control motor
V113 (see the separate procedure).
Route wiring harness so that it cannot come into contact with any moving parts (e.g. actuating arm on control motor).
Install retainer (A)
, paying particular attention to ensure guide of retainer (B) is properly inserted in support of air intake duct (C) and retainer is properly engaged in both catches (D) and (E).
Note
The positions of the air flow flap control motor
V71 and air recirculation flap control motor
V113 (and associated flaps) cannot be seen when the glove box is installed, so it is prudent to check their function before installing the glove compartment.
If the two gears (on the air flow flap control motor
V71 and the air flow flap) are installed in the wrong positions, it will be noticeable that the air flow flap will not reach its two end positions or the control motor does not run smoothly without catching.
Reinstall all parts in reverse order of removal.
Note
After installing air flow flap control motor
V71
, check operation of air flow flap.
Checking: with vehicle diagnostic tester
Renewing: initiate basic setting using vehicle diagnostic tester.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
