Removing and installing air conditioner compressor drive plate — VW
Removing and installing air conditioner compressor drive plate on VW: 7 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what.
Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: VW Touareg II (7P, 2010–2018)
Don't miss
- Depending on the version of the air conditioner compressor (different shafts), a ring spanner or, e.g. a socket T10001/10 from the shock absorber set T10001 or counter-hold tool3079 must be used.
- This figure shows rubber elements (B) in version "“1”". The rubber elements (B) in the version "“2”" are connected at their tops.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) | Tighten drive plate (C) |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Remove drive plate with overload protection .
- Loosen drive plate (C) by turning with a commercially available strap wrench (with fabric strap) in direction of arrow (D). Counterhold air conditioner compressor input shaft (A) with a counterhold (B) on compressor shaft (A). [Note: Depending on the version of the air conditioner compressor (different shafts), a ring spanner or, e.g. a socket T10001/10 from the shock absorber set T10001 or counter-hold tool3079 must be used.]
- When installing rubber elements (B), moisten them lightly with, for example, a soapy solution as lubricant.
- Insert rubber elements (B) into drive plate (A) as shown in illustration.
- Insert drive plate (A) with rubber elements (B) into drive plate (C) so far that it contacts shaft of air conditioner compressor as shown in figure. [Note: This figure shows rubber elements (B) in version "“1”". The rubber elements (B) in the version "“2”" are connected at their tops.]
- Screw drive disc (C) onto air conditioner compressor shaft (B) by turning in direction of arrow (F).
- Tighten drive plate (C) to 30 Nm by turning it with a commercially available strap wrench (with fabric strap) in direction of arrow (E). Counterhold air conditioner compressor input shaft (A) with a counterhold (B) on compressor shaft (A). [Note: Depending on the version of the air conditioner compressor (different shafts), a ring spanner or, e.g. a socket T10001/10 from the shock absorber set T10001 or counter-hold tool3079 must be used.] — 30 Nm (22 lb-ft)

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
