Poly-V belt (elastic) (vehicles with air conditioner compressor) - remove and install — VW

Poly-V belt (elastic) (vehicles with air conditioner compressor) - remove and install on VW: 26 steps, engines CCRA, CFZA.

Some small petrol engines, here CCRA and CFZA on the platform codes listed below, run an elastic poly-V belt with no tensioner, one for the air conditioning compressor and one for the alternator. These belts are rolled off and on with special pullers and assembly tools while the crankshaft is turned slowly clockwise. To make turning the engine easy the spark plugs come out first, then the right front wheel housing cover is removed. Each belt is marked for its running direction before removal, because a used belt run backwards can fail. On refitting, the compressor belt goes on first, rolled onto the crankshaft pulley with the assembly tool and hook, then the alternator belt. The job is only done right if both belts sit fully in the grooves of every pulley.

26 steps 2 engine codes

🧭 Before you start

Remove the spark plugs and the right front wheel housing cover. Mark each belt's running direction, then use the pullers while turning the crankshaft clockwise to roll the belts off. Fit the compressor belt first on its pulley and roll it onto the crankshaft pulley with the assembly tool and hook, then do the same for the alternator belt. Check both belts are fully seated, then refit the wheel housing cover, spark plugs and plug connectors.

Fits: VW Fox (5Z)

Don't miss

  • Mark the running direction of a used belt before removal and refit it the same way.
  • Turn the crankshaft only clockwise and slowly while the tools are working the belt.
  • Fit the air conditioning compressor belt before the alternator belt.
  • Check each belt sits fully in every groove of both its pulleys.
  • Use the correct tool to refit spark plug connectors without damaging them.

📋 Procedure

  1. ⚠ Risk of compromising due to the reversed rotation direction, in case of used Poly-V belts. Before removing the Poly-V belt, mark the rotation direction with chalk or marker pen, in order to ensure proper operating position installation. — Remove the Spark plug connectorsQ with the Assembly tool3277 A or Assembly tool T10029.
  2. Remove Spark plugsQ with Spark plug wrench3122B .
  3. Remove right front wheel case cover General body repairs, exterior66External equipment.
  4. Install the Puller T02009/2A between the Poly-V belt (elastic) and the crankshaft pulley.
  5. Turn the crankshaft slowly clockwise until the Puller T02009/2A begins displacing the Poly-V belt (elastic).

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
