Installing gearbox, CC, Passat, vehicles with turbo diesel engine, front-wheel drive, Scirocco, Golf Cabriolet, vehicles with turbo diesel engine, engine lifting eyes »next to each other« on engine — VW

Installing gearbox, CC, Passat, vehicles with turbo diesel engine, front-wheel drive, Scirocco, Golf Cabriolet, vehicles with turbo diesel engine, engine.

Fitting the manual gearbox back to a front-wheel-drive turbo diesel is the subject here, on the Passat B7 (362/365), the VW CC 2012–2017 (358), the Scirocco and the Golf VI Cabriolet 2011–2016 (517), in the version with the engine lifting eyes side by side. The engine is pushed forwards on the support bridge, the gearbox goes up on the gearbox support and jack, and it has to be tilted and rotated past the subframe and longitudinal member with the right flange shaft clearing the engine bolt hole. Once it sits on the dowel sleeves, the lower bolts go in, then the upper ones, then the mountings and pendulum support. What decides the job is clean threads for the self-locking bolts and fitting the mountings free of tension.

80 steps

🧭 Before you start

Transfer the selector and relay levers if the gearbox is new, clean all threads for self-locking bolts and check the dowel sleeves and release bearing. Support the engine on the bridge and push it forwards, mount the gearbox on the support and jack, then tilt it over the subframe and join it on the dowels. Fit the lower and upper connecting bolts, the mounting bracket, assembly mounting and pendulum support with new bolts. Then refit drive shafts, exhaust, starter, charge air parts and wiring, bleed the clutch, adjust the selector mechanism and check the gear oil.

Fits: VW Passat B7 saloon (362, 2010–2014), VW Passat B7 Variant (365, 2010–2014), VW CC (358, 2012–2017), VW Golf Cabriolet (517, 2011–2016); platform code 137

  • Opens: brake fluid, clutch fluid
  • Special tools named: T10346/1

Don't miss

  • Clean old locking fluid out of every threaded hole that takes a self-locking bolt.
  • Check both dowel sleeves are in the cylinder block before joining engine and gearbox.
  • Start mounting bolts square; misaligned bracket and mounting can strip the gearbox support thread.
  • Leave the engine support bracket in place until all assembly mounting bolts are torqued.
  • Use new bolts for the pendulum support and renew the selector lever securing clip.
  • Bleed the clutch, adjust the selector mechanism and check gear oil before road testing.

📋 Procedure

  1. If the gearbox is to be renewed, the gearbox selector lever and gate relay lever must be transferred to the new gearbox.
  2. All threaded holes into which self-locking bolts are to be screwed must be cleaned of residual locking fluid carefully with a thread tap.
  3. The dowel sleeves for aligning engine and gearbox must be in cylinder block, install if necessary.
  4. Check release bearing for wear. If necessary, renew clutch slave cylinder with release bearing .
  5. Bolt bracket T10346 or bracket T10346/1 with bolt (1) to left threaded hole in subframe.

  1. Fit engine support3300 A to bracket.
  2. Place cloth between support device3300 A and oil sump.
  3. Bolt bracket T10346 or bracket T10346/1 with bolt (1) to left threaded hole in subframe.
  4. Fit engine support3300 A to bracket.
  5. Place cloth between support device3300 A and oil sump.
  6. Force engine forwards with spindle of support bridge3300 A. When doing this, observe the following points:
  7. Align arms of gearbox support according to holes in adjustment plate.
  8. Attach support elements(A) to adjustment plate as illustrated.
  9. Screw in pin3282/29 instead of support element(C).
  10. Place gearbox on engine and gearbox jack.
  11. Align adjustment plate and gearbox parallel to one another.
  12. Then screw pin3282/29 into rear hole on gearbox for securing bolt of pendulum support.
  13. Secure adapterVW 771/40 in threaded hole of gearbox housing as shown in figure.
  14. Secure gearbox to gearbox support3282 using bolt (M10 × 20) (A).
  15. Position engine and gearbox jack under vehicle. Arrow on adjustment plate points in direction of vehicle travel. [Note: Be careful of all lines when installing gearbox.]
  16. Now turn gearbox near differential via spindles of gearbox support3282 in (direction of arrow).
  17. Then carefully raise gearbox.
  18. Guide gearbox with differential (A) over subframe.
  19. Note longitudinal member (arrows).
  20. If necessary, tilt gearbox further using spindles of gearbox support3282.
  21. Right flange shaft (1) must be guided past bolt hole of engine (2).
  22. When doing this, use spindles of gearbox support3282 to adjust position of gearbox so that longitudinal member (arrows) is not touched.
  23. Then rotate gearbox into installation position via spindles of gearbox support3282.
  24. Align gearbox on engine dowel sleeves and join.
  25. ⚠ Brake fluid may escape out of bleeder on gearbox. — Screw in engine/gearbox connecting bolt (C) and tighten it .
  26. Screw in lower engine/gearbox securing bolts and tighten them .
  27. Remove engine support3300 A and bracket.
  28. Screw in engine/gearbox connecting bolt (arrow) and tighten it .
  29. Screw in lower engine/gearbox securing bolts and tighten them .
  30. After bottom of gearbox and engine are bolted together, remove gearbox support3282 from gearbox.
  31. Remove engine support3300 A and bracket.
  32. Screw in upper engine/gearbox securing bolts and tighten them .
  33. Install gearbox selector lever to gearbox selector shaft and tighten hexagon nut .
  34. Install gate relay lever together with cable end-piece .
  35. Install bracket (1) on gearbox using new hexagon bolts (arrows) and tighten bolts .
  36. Align engine and gearbox in installation position. To do this, raise sufficiently so that bracket (1) completely contacts left assembly mounting (2).
  37. ⚠ Risk of damaging thread in gearbox support if bolts are started at an angle. To avoid damage to the thread in the gearbox support, the gearbox mounting and bracket must be aligned parallel to each other. — Screw in new bolts and tighten them (arrows). [Note: Install engine and gearbox mounting free of tension 10Removing and installing engine; Installing engine.]
  38. Do not remove engine support bracket10 - 222 A until all bolts securing the assembly mounting have been tightened to specified torque.
  39. If small cover plate (A) for flywheel is present, install it (arrows). [Note: On some gearboxes, there are threaded inserts, e.g. "“Heli coil”", in the bolting holes for the pendulum support .]
  40. Install pendulum support using new bolts Running gear, axles, steering40. [Note: Install engine and gearbox mounting free of tension 10Removing and installing engine.]
  41. Assemble exhaust system and attach exhaust system bracket to subframe 26Exhaust system.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
