Filling: Using cooling system charge unitVAS 6096 only on VW: 19 steps, engines CFWA, CLNA, CWXA, CWXB.

Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

19 steps 4 engine codes engine codes merged from 4 documented variants

🧭 Before you start

Fits: VW Polo 6R (2009–2014)

  • Special tools named: VAS 6096, V.A.G 1274/8

Don't miss

  • Exhaust air takes a slight quantity of coolant along with it; this should be collected.
  • If the needle does not reach the green zone, repeat the process. If vacuum drops, cooling system must be checked for leaks.
  • Fill coolant up to "“max.”" mark.
  • Check coolant level and top-up if necessary. When the engine is at normal operating temperature, the coolant level must be at the upper mark; when the engine is cold, in the middle of the hatched field.

📋 Procedure

  1. Fill coolant reservoir of VAS 6096 with at least 8 litres of pre-mixed coolant in correct mixture ratio:
  2. Screw adapter for cooling system testerV.A.G 1274/8 onto coolant expansion tank.
  3. Mount cooling system charge unitVAS 6096 on adapter V.A.G 1274/8.
  4. Feed vent hose (1) into a small container (2). [Note: Exhaust air takes a slight quantity of coolant along with it; this should be collected.]
  5. Close valves (A) and (B) (turn lever transverse to direction of flow to do this).

  1. Connect hose (3) to compressed air.
  2. Open valve (B); turn lever in direction of flow to do this.
  3. Also briefly open valve (A) (turn lever in direction of flow to do this) so that hose on VAS 6096 coolant reservoir fills with coolant.
  4. Close valve (A) again.
  5. Leave valve (B) open for a further 2 minutes.
  6. Close valve (B). [Note: If the needle does not reach the green zone, repeat the process. If vacuum drops, cooling system must be checked for leaks.]
  7. Pull off compressed air hose.
  8. Open valve (A).
  9. Remove cooling system charge unitVAS 6096 from coolant expansion tank.
  10. Fill coolant up to "“max.”" mark.
  11. Fit expansion tank cap.
  12. Start engine. Keep engine speed at approx. 2,000 rpm for approx. 3 minutes.
  13. Then run engine at idling speed until radiator fan cuts in.
  14. Check coolant level and top-up if necessary. When the engine is at normal operating temperature, the coolant level must be at the upper mark; when the engine is cold, in the middle of the hatched field.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
