📋 Procedure

Special tools, testers, measuring units and auxiliary items required

V.A.G 1526 A Hand multimeter

V.A.G 1594 A Adapter set

Not illustrated:

Commercially available measuring glass (0 ml to 25ml)
Current flow diagram

Notes:

If the ambient temperature is above 20 °C then fuel gassing may lead to incorrect measurements being achieved.
Position measuring glass at same height as heater unit when measuring.
No bubbles are to be delivered.

Test prerequisites:

No fault stored in fault memory
Fuel pipes/hoses are not damaged or leaking.
Ambient temperature approx. 20 °C
Fuel tank is filled sufficiently (fuel gauge on dash panel is not in red area).
Intake and outlet channels are not blocked.
Combustion air and exhaust systems are not blocked.
A voltage of between 11 V and 13 V is available between control unit -J65- contacts -T4a/3- and contact -T4a/4.

Warning!
Fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
Checking:

Select DC range 20 V on hand multimeter V.A.G 1526 A.
Connect test probes to contacts -T4a/4- (positive) and -T4a/3- (negative) of control unit -J65-.
Pull fuel pipe/hose off heater unit and place end in measuring glass.
Switch heater on.
Fuel delivery begins approx. 45 seconds after switching on.
Switch heater off as soon as fuel flows into the measuring container from the fuel line and wait for run-on period to end.
Empty measuring container and place fuel line in measuring container.
Switch heater on again.

Fuel delivery begins approx. 45 seconds after switching on.
Read off voltage value on hand multimeter V.A.G 1526 A .
Fuel supply is switched off automatically after 90 seconds.
Switch heater off and compare fuel delivered in measurement container with values in table.

Table

Heater unit · Quantity of fuel in ml
B3LC · 9 to 10
D3LC · 8 to 9
B3LP · 8 to 9
D3LP · 7 to 8

The quantity of fuel delivered is OK when the amount of fuel in the measuring glass equates to the value in the table.

If the quantity delivered does not conform to the amount in the table:

Renew fuel pump -G23-.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
