Checking fuel delivery rate (engine codes CAWA, CAWB, CBFA, CCTA, CCTB, BZB, CGYA) — VW

Checking fuel delivery rate (engine codes CAWA, CAWB, CBFA, CCTA, CCTB, BZB, CGYA) on VW: 28 steps, engines BZB, CAWA, CAWB, CBFA.

Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

28 steps 7 engine codes

🧭 Before you start

Fits: VW Golf V / Jetta (1K, 2003–2009), VW Golf VI (5K, 2008–2013); platform codes 1F7, 137

  • Special tools named: VAS 5565
  • Renewed: fuel filter, fuel delivery unit

Don't miss

  • This step serves only to have the fuel pump running when the engine is stopped.
  • Press in securing ring to release fuel lines.
  • Make sure that drain tap is closed and cut-off taps are open.
  • Operate remote controlV.A.G 1348/3A. Then slowly close shut-off tap (arrow) until a pressure of 4 bar is displayed on pressure gauge. From this point on do not move position of shut-off tap.

📋 Procedure

  1. Remove bench seat General body repairs, interior72Removing and installing bench seat.
  2. Remove cover (1) with fuel pump control unit J538(2) from fuel delivery unit.
  3. First check that the connector (arrow) is fitted securely by pulling the connector without pressing the catch. The connector can cause a fault if it has not been fitted correctly.
  4. Now pull off connector.
  5. Check the contacts on the connector and on the fuel delivery unit for damage.

  1. Connect test instrument adapter/DSO (5-pin)VAS 5565 to connector and fuel delivery unit.
  2. Connect remote controlV.A.G 1348/3A to adapterVAS 5565 and to battery positive terminal clamp in the engine compartment. [Note: This step serves only to have the fuel pump running when the engine is stopped.]
  3. ⚠ Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid possible injury and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection. — Pull off supply line (metal coupling) (arrow) and catch escaping fuel with a cloth. [Note: Press in securing ring to release fuel lines.]
  4. Connect pressure testerVAS 6550 to fuel supply line with adapterVAS 6550/2. Hold adapterVAS 6550/1 in a measuring container.
  5. Make sure that drain tap is closed and cut-off taps are open.
  6. ⚠ Danger of spraying! Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid possible injury and skin contact. Hold container in front of open connection of pressure tester. — Operate remote controlV.A.G 1348/3A. Then slowly close shut-off tap (arrow) until a pressure of 4 bar is displayed on pressure gauge. From this point on do not move position of shut-off tap.
  7. Drain measuring container.
  8. The quantity of fuel delivered by the fuel pump is dependant on the battery voltage, therefore, also connect multimeterV.A.G 1715 to contacts (1 and 5) of 5-pin test instrument/DSO adapterVAS 5565.
  9. Operate remote control for 60 seconds while measuring voltage at fuel pump.
  10. Compare quantity of fuel delivered with specification.
  11. Check fuel lines for possible restrictions (kinks) or blockages.
  12. Remove cap from fuel filler neck and repeat check. If fuel delivery rate is now reached, check fuel tank breather.
  13. Check fuel filter (proceed as follows):
  14. ⚠ Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid possible injury and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection. — Pull fuel supply line (arrow) off fuel filter.
  15. Connect pressure testerVAS 6550 to fuel supply line with adapterVAS 6550/1. Hold adapterVAS 6550/2 in a measuring container.
  16. Make sure that drain tap is closed and cut-off taps are open.
  17. Operate remote controlV.A.G 1348/3A. Then slowly close shut-off tap (arrow) until a pressure of 4 bar is displayed on pressure gauge. From this point on do not move position of shut-off tap.
  18. Drain measuring container.
  19. Repeat delivery rate check.
  20. Renew fuel filter.
  21. Remove fuel delivery unit and check filter strainer for soiling.
  22. Renew fuel delivery unit.
  23. Measure current draw of fuel pump .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
