Note
It is essential to observe the manufacturing date. The manufacturing date is embossed on the crankshaft web. Establish manufacturing date
Chapter
.
Main bearing shells of the correct thickness are allocated to the cylinder block and crankshaft at the factory. Coloured dots are used to identify the thickness of the bearing shells.
If the cylinder block or crankshaft is changed, the crankshaft bearing shells must be reallocated.
Establish the correct colour marking for the bearing shell using the letters on the cylinder block and the crankshaft.
The first letter is allocated to crankshaft bearing 1, the second to crankshaft bearing 2, etc.
Letters on cylinder block:
The letters for the allocation of the bearing shells are located on the sealing surface of the sump.
Letters on crankshaft:
The letters for the allocation of the bearing shells are located on the outer crankshaft web of No. 1 cylinder.
Note the letters and search for the colour marking to use with the aid of the table.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
