  1. Move bevel gear with stub shaft up and down (direction of arrow).
  2. Read play from dial gauge and determine Stotal.
  3. Set up measuring tools.
  4. Turn bevel gear with stub shaft to stop. Set dial gauge to zero, turn back bevel gear with stub shaft and read backlash. Note reading.
  5. Loosen clamping sleeve locking screw and after turning bevel gear with stub shaft a further 90°, repeat complete measuring process 3 more times. Add the four results and calculate the average backlash.
  6. Install determined shim S2 in place of Stotal.
  7. Various tolerances make it possible to obtain the exact shim thickness required.
  8. Press outer race in again and fit bevel gear with stub shaft.
  9. Insert determined S1 shim.
  10. Different tolerances make it possible to determine the exact thickness of shim required.
  11. Press outer race in again.
  12. Fit cover.
  13. It must be 0.15...0.20 mm.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
